UAE to set up refugee camp in Jordan

First phase of the four-phase Emirates camp will accommodate 2,700 refugees

The UAE will set up a camp for Syrian refugees at Mafraq in Jordan, Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA), announced today.

He said the first phase of the four-phase Emirates camp will accommodate 2,700 refugees and will be jointly run by the UAE RCA and its Jordanian counterpart.

“The humanitarian situation of Syrian refugees in Jordan is getting worse and we should move quickly to secure decent living staples along with medical and relief services, especially to women and children,’’ Shaikh Hamdan said during a tour of the UAE-Jordan Mobile Hospital. “Syria is dear to us and we hope the situation returns to normalcy and even better. We also hope refugees get back to their homeland and enjoy security and safety,’’ he added.

The UAE, Shaikh Hamdan indicated, is a bright model of giving that knows no boundaries and limits when facing a humanitarian challenge.

Shaikh Hamdan said the UAE had become the epitome of charity and giving across the world thanks to the consistent support and generosity of its leadership for humanitarian works. Shaikh Hamdan expressed the UAE’s sincere desire to offer a helping hand to all those in need around the world in implementation of instructions given by UAE President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Their Highnesses the Rulers of the Emirates.

The hospital was originally based at Mafraq but was shifted to Syrian refugee camps to ease their human and health suffering.

Dr Adel Al Shameri, Executive Director of the hospital, briefed Shaikh Hamdan on the world-class diagnostic, curative and preventive services the health facility provides to thousands of Syrian refugees. Shaikh Hamdan was also informed about the operational plan of the hospital and coordination with Jordanian authorities.

During the tour, Shaikh Hamdan talked with a number of patients and enquired about their health. Sponsored by a group of UAE humanitarian agencies including the RCA, the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, the hospital was launched last week by the Zayed Giving Initiative and is run by a joint Emirati-Jordanian technical and medical team of 80 members.

Jordan and Turkey are begging for money..... shame on them, and shame on those people who are selling their diginity.

Syria have always hosted refugees from Palestine, Lebanon, and Iraq, however Syria never begged for money, and never put them in tents, instead they let them live a normal life, and we didn't use those refugee to sell them and get money. Shame on those countries who are begging for money, and shame on those people for losing their dignity and becoming slaves, they can't even take a step outside the camp.

Jordan is facing the hardest economic conditions, from blowing the Egyptian gas line which costs Jordan $2 bn a year, cut off trade through Syria which was the main root of Jordanian export/import, rising the salaries to meet people needs, investments are less due to the chaos in the region, press on Jordanian water resources, electricity and fuel which are scarce in Jordan and imports them. However, Jordan hosted in it's cities 1 million Iraqi, 55 thousand Libyan, 140 thousand Syrian, till it couldn't take it and asked UN to set up a refugee camp. Now, there are 600 k Egyptians working in Jordan as well, so the Syrians, Iraqis, and Egyptians work in Jordan while Jordanians can barely find jobs, apartments rents have been multiplied 3-4 times. Just imagine that a small apartment rent in my city is $300 a moth while it was less than $100 few years ago. Rich countries have to support Jordan go through such a difficult situation.

we all know what u use to do with Palestine refuges.

Arabs and Muslims will never leave their syrian brothers alone, we will help them getting what they need the most.

Complete BS, Syrians are not allowed to step outside their camps, plus the Jordan government. Plus you supported sanctions on the Syrian people, so this what you will get back, God is the best judge ever. You killed Syrians and you put sanctions on them, and we Syrians will never beg for money, because we ARE SYRIANS.

What did we do the Palestinians? we gave them the best jobs, best benefits, best schooling, and etc.

Those Syrians were living in Syria with dignity and respect two years ago in Syria, they didn't even worry about food or security. Now you terrorists ruined the country, and you terrorists are displacing people.

And I would like to mention the rape cases that are happening in the Turkish camps, and recently in Jordan. people are kidnapping and forcing 14 year old girls to get married.

Those people lost their dignity when they left Syria, I would have rather died in my country, then leave and beg for food and water. Two years ago people in Syria were safe and had a lot of food, and till this thank god we have food. We Syrians are willing to live on bread, olives and oil for the rest of our lives, and not bow down to the enemies.

Sure syria pured honey and milk at the palestinian refugees
here are some examples
Tel al-Zaatar massacre in 1976 where over 1500 palestinians butchered by Assad senior
and just last month 20 palestinians got killed by Assad junior at Yarmouk refugee camp
