UAE proposal for anti-terrorism charter approved
Unanimous decision by Organisation of Islamic Cooperation members

The members of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Member States (PUOICM) have unanimously approved a proposal submitted by the Parliamentary Division of the UAE’s Federal National Council (FNC) for drafting the union’s draft Islamic parliamentary charter on combating terrorism and extremism.

The UAE’s proposal was approved during PUOICM’s 10th session which took place on January 20-22 in Istanbul, Turkey.

The executive committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s parliamentary body was tasked with preparing a draft of the ‘Islamic Parliamentary Charter on Action against Terrorism and Extremism’.

Mohammad Ahmad Al Murr, FNC speaker, who led the UAE delegation to the session, described the approval of the UAE’s proposal as yet another achievement made by the parliamentary division whose proposals and requests for adding emergency items at Arab and international meetings are usually unanimously approved.

The FNC’s parliamentary division takes special interest in combating terrorism as part of its continuous support for the UAE’s foreign policy which prioritises this issue to counter the spread of terrorism, violence and extremist ideologies which are all against the moderation and tolerance of Islam,” Al Murr said.
