President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has sent a relief plane to Tehran carrying 95 tons of relief items to support those affected by the floods as part of the joint UAE-Saudi initiative to alleviate the suffering of Iranians.
The aid was being provided, based upon the directives of Sheikh Khalifa and the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The plane was accompanied by a delegation from the Red Crescent to deliver relief items, including large quantities of food, tents and shelter materials.
The UAE Red Crescent affirmed that the directives of His Highness reflect the brotherly bonds and solidarity with the Iranian people.
The Red Crescent said in a statement that the relief operations in Iran are an extension of UAE's wise leadership to stand by those affected by natural disasters everywhere - stating the UAE-Saudi joint initiative is a humanitarian leap from both sides and will greatly impact the lives of the people affected by this disaster.
It further confirmed that it will spare no effort to stand by the Iranian citizens affected by the floods.
Iran's worst flooding in 70 years, which started on March 19, has killed at least 76 people, forced more than 220,000 into emergency shelters and caused an estimated $2.5 billion in damage to roads, bridges, homes and farmland.
