UAE Halts Talks to Buy French Rafale Fighter Jets

The United Arab Emirates has halted negotiations with France to buy Rafale fighter jets, which are manufactured by French aerospace firm Dassault Aviation (AM.FR), French newspaper Le Parisien said, citing the country’s defense minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian.

“I didn’t go to the United Arab Emirates for the Rafales. The Rafales will wait. This discussion will come later,” Le Drian said, according to the newspaper. The minister traveled to the UAE last weekend.
He said the Gulf country has decided to reduce the share of its military spending on French equipment to 10% from a previous level of 70%, Le Parisien reported. The renewal of the UAE air force’s fleet would be worth close to 10 billion euros ($12.9 billion), the newspaper said.

Last year, Le Drian’s predecessor, Gerard Longuet, had said there was a high probability that France could sell as many as 60 Rafales to the UAE. Dassault, which supplies the French airforce with Rafale jets, hasn’t found a customer outside France yet.

Rafale is best coz it went through tough IAF evaluation process… You might be knowing that IAF went for filing patent for the evaluation process That IAF followed…As you said “Indian say it is best”…Yes India was looking for fighter as per IAF requirement…So RAFALE is best as per Indian requirement....As JF-17 is best as per PAF requirement.

Eurofighter generally has superior air-to-air combat capabilities. Whereas the Rafale is better in the multi-role category.

Other than those, both are very capable planes even though they aren't very proven in combat.

Nope... Eurofighter havent been integrated with missiles... Its just a fighter , maybe good, unproven in combat, while Rafale have proved itself... I doubt Euro can fly low to the ground, making it air superiorty fighter and may not be multi role...
As u said, countries have own set of requirements, But in 4++ gen , proven, Rafale is the best...
Maybe Super MKI can eclipse them, but we have to wait to see....

May be UAE was given an option....French fighters vs US security. With threat from Iran looming it doesn't need a rocket scientist to figure out which one they will choose.
