U.S. officials say Russian missiles heading for Syria landed in Iran

.
Lol, nothing hit the city of Takab. Citizens of some cities heard the sound of missiles flying in the sky near cities, but the missiles' path didn't pass any cities, towns or villages, as it was coordinated between Iran and Russia.
In just one incident, a missile seems to have failed and hit the ground near a village, though not confirmed yet.

That's it, if there was anything else, it would explode in news sites and social media. When CNN claims anonymous sources, they better also provide proof for that. 4 cruise missiles hitting the ground and exploding isn't exactly something you can hide easily from media. Local residents are always the first to gather in area and take pictures.

Also, cruise missiles failing is nothing extraordinary. Various U.S Tomahawks failed and crashed during Iraq war.

Well its sounding like the US military was accurate... again while it can be dismissed as propaganda, as you say if it was totally false it could be easily disproven. The US certainly has the capability to track Russian missiles. This event, while unconfirmed that it was a missile (instead saying unidentified flying vehicle, it sounds like it corraborates.

A number of cruise missiles launched from a Russian ship and aimed at targets in Syria have crashed in Iran, two U.S. officials told CNN Thursday.

Monitoring by U.S. military and intelligence assets has concluded that at least four missiles crashed as they flew over Iran. One official said there may be casualties, but another official said this is not yet known.

It's unclear where in Iran the missiles landed. The Russian ships have been positioned in the south Caspian Sea, meaning the likely flight path for missiles into Syria would cross over both Iran and Iraq.

The Russians have been firing a relatively new cruise missile called "Kaliber," using it for the first time in combat.

Iran's semi-official FARS news agency, however, said that neither Russian nor Iranian authorities have confirmed the U.S. officials' information at this point.

On Wednesday, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin on Russian television that all 26 missiles launched from four missile ships struck their targets, with no civilian facilities hit. Putin then congratulated him on the performance of the weapons.

It was not clear, however, whether Shoigu was referring to the same missiles as the U.S. officials, as the latter may have been describing ones launched after the TV appearance.

The assessment came as Defense Secretary Ashton Carter warned Thursday at NATO headquarters in Brussels that Russia would likely suffer casualties "within the coming days" as it deepens its military involvement in Syria.

Carter also took rhetorical aim at Moscow Thursday, calling out Russia for "increasingly unprofessional behavior" after a Russian fighter jet violated Turkish airspace earlier this week and after Russia launched missiles into Syria from the Caspian Sea "without warning."

While Carter again pointed to the need for an agreement on "professional safety procedures" to avoid accidents in Syrian skies between Russian and U.S.-led sorties, which are taking aim at ISIS, he stressed that the U.S. would not cooperate militarily at a strategic level with Russia.

"We have not and will not agree to cooperate with Russia so long as they continue to pursue this misguided strategy," he said earlier in the week. "It remains our hope that Russia will see that tethering itself to a sinking ship is a losing strategy because Russia has the opportunity to change course and do the right thing. I don't know if they will."

In Rome earlier in his trip, Carter described to a "tragically flawed" Russian strategy in Syria, where Russian military actions appear increasingly aimed at bolstering the Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad in his struggle against rebel forces and less at fighting ISIS.

U.S. and Russian military officials have yet to establish a reliable communication channel to avoid potentially tragic accidents between Russian and U.S.-led forces operating in Syrian airspace.

Separately, a U.S. defense official told CNN that there have been at least two incidents in which Russian fighter jets flew in close proximity to U.S. drones. The first incident was not believed to be deliberate. However, the U.S. assessment is that the second encounter was a deliberate attempt to shadow the unmanned aircraft.

Unlike the recent encounters with manned U.S. fighter jets, the drones did not turn away, since no pilots were at risk.

What's the big deal, even US CM fall during flight in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

IMO the prospect of defeating the crazy jihadists in Syria with Russian help far outweighs some missiles crash-landing in some uninhabited place in a remote place in Iran. But most likely this American propaganda.

Not at all. In the grand scheme of things cause of concern should be for United States as it keeps supporting the cannibal zombies.

As for the missile, we do not know the truth and this news is based on speculations. Even if say, a couple of them did crash in a barren land, this would not benefit United States and its support for cannibal zombies at all. So please do not get carried away with it, as some American posters here clearly are (by digging in Persian websites and suddenly have started to learn Persian as well). Lol.

In fact it might be quite the opposite. When some Tomahawk missiles crashed in Pakistan, that then helped China and Pakistan to develop their own versions of Tomahawk missiles eg. the Babur cruise missile: The Missiles of August--Part II | MIT Technology Review

Though it is early to speculate on this "incident", but since Iran allowed Russia to use its air space, the crash story might as well be a cover up story for the transfer of technology of Klub family of cruise missiles to Iran: 3M-54 Klub - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Later on, if Iran starts producing copies of this missile, Russia can easily claim that Iran copied the crashed missiles similar to how Pakistan and China copied the Tomahawk missile. Perfect excuse and prefect precedence.

Time will tell.

Right now, we should concentrate on cannibal zombies and American support for them.

Even some ''supermodern american'' crash landed on Iranian territory before. This is nothing compared to prospect of defeating Israel-backed moderate beheaders.

I'm happy that suddenly everyone is so concerned that nothing happen to Iranian citizens. Thank you to everyone's concern, and I'm glad to tell you all that no harm has come to any Iranian or buildings it seems.
LOL yeh i bet the Americans are now googling ''learning basic persian in 24 hours''

The reports seem to be coming from Iranian sources and American intelligence so it might be very well true.

Doesnt even the possibility anger you that Russians used Iranian airspace without permission and endangered Iranian lives, while the whole operation could have been done safely from Mediterranian?
You shouldnt take this incident lightly.
