Two Fast Attack Missile Crafts QUWWAT, JURRAT inducted to Pak Navy
KARACHI, Feb. 24 (APP): Pakistan Navy commissioned in its fleet two indigenously built Fast Attack Missile Crafts QUWWAT and JURRAT at an impressive ceremony held here at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works on Friday.
Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir said that commissioning of these Missile boats heralded a new era for Pakistan Navy in missile craft construction.
He said this significant achievement had laid the foundation of a viable shipbuilding industry which Pakistan Navy would Inshallah continue to further capitalize upon.
The Naval Chief further said that in the changed maritime scenario, Navy undertakings had increased manifold and warranted development of a balanced Navy capable of safeguarding our legitimate maritime interests.
ââ¬ÅTo this end, our Frigate Project has already been materialized which will inshallah commence soon with the Chinese collaboration in the region. Induction of these Fast Attack Missile Crafts in PN Fleet will certainly enhance its offensive punch,ââ¬Â he added.
Acknowledging Governmentââ¬â¢s efforts to equip Navy with the latest weaponry and providing it with a infrastructure compatible to the modern needs, he observed that the Government had paid full attention to the maritime sector and development of Gwadar port and Coastal Highway were significant steps in that direction.
Chief of the Naval Staff congratulated all the engineers and technicians of Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works on achieving this significant milestone.
He thanked M/s MARSUN of Thailand for their valuable contribution towards this landmark achievement. He also hoped that the newly inducted crafts would meet all future challenges effectively and undertake their assigned missions successfully.
Earlier in his welcome address, Managing Director Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works, Rear Admiral (Retd.) Azhar Hussain, shed light on various technical aspects of the Missile Crafts.
He apprised the audience that the crafts measuring 30 meters in length and having speed in excess of 30 knots with displacement of 250 tons, had been fitted with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors including Electronic Warfare Systems and Fire Control Radar.
