TV drama series about the Pakistan Movement

Over the last couple of years I've started watching Turkish TV shows. I'm a big fan of Dirilis Ertugrul which is a dramatization of the life of Ertugrul (father of Osman, the founder of the Ottoman Empire). There have been other decent ones too, based around Turkish history and even sufi values. I suspect they play a part in helping shape public opinion to suit the policies of AKP and Erdogran.

It made me think and I hope someone in Pakistan creates a similar in depth TV series about the Pakistan movement. Hopefully it starts from the impact of colonialism and the need for the Pakistan movement, rather than just being about the politics of the 40's.

This story needs to be told in an exciting way in a modern medium to help enforce identity. People really only learn about this stuff at school as kids - nobody is interested as kids, it's only a grade that you need to get. A drama series can dive deep into complex issues that aren't taught in school.

I tried thinking about atleast 1 tv serial about Pakistan Movement but nothing came to mind except one 20 years old movie Jinnah.

It's a need of the hour. Our society is always being hacked at from outside and inside, false narratives being promoted. Prime time TV once a week or twice a week should have an engaging, entertaining story - telling us how it all came about in the first place.

people should know their real history and mistakes done in past, so that they can rectify in future. false pride in others history never benefits a nation.
There should be balance with history and future .

• we got freed from Sikh servitude in 1849
• then we exchanged to a new master, the British for the next 98 years until 1947

That's just a part of the story though isn't it. Colonialism started in Bengal, the Pakistan movement involved Muslims across India, not just those in Punjab/Kashmir etc.

Yes, What is now Bangladesh has a significant history in the Pakistan movement and was of course until 1971, Pakistan.

I'll show what I want to show. I might even show a vision where a character sees the future and there's loads of people taking dumps on train lines. That inspires the character to support the idea of Pakistan.

In all seriousness, it'd have to be historically accurate, but would probably have a gloss over it. The victor writes history after all.

Not really. I am looking at from the prism of Pakistan. If of course you want to give lustre to the British project called the Raj, go ahead by all means. It is not neccessary to be trapped in the 'British' narrative for eternity.

No. Sorry. European colonialsm in South Asia started in Kerala by the Portugese and later Goa. The British were late entrants to South Asia.

There would have been no 'movement' if the British had not freed us from Sikh servitude.

And contrary to what you have been told the region that is today Pakistan remained largely at peace in the so called Indian Mutiny. Indeed the British relied on men from what is now Pakistan [Muslim/Sikh] to supress the mutiny which was primarily centred around the Ganga basin.

I loved the tv drama Dastaan. We need more stuff like this but with more history than romance or family dramas.
