Turkey, Russia and Iran should collaborate developing 5th generation fighter jet. It will reduce the cost burden on individual countries and enhance the quality. This collaboration should come up with equal or better 5th generation fighter jet than US made F-35 which US supplied to Israel but refusing to give Turkey despite Turkish collaboration. The new Turkish+Russian+Iranian 5th generation fighter jet should be given to Iran, Syria and Lebanon to prevent Israeli attack upon them.

8 years have been gone .. may be now finally programme will get a pace due to sloppy Turk - American relations. by the way what happened with Rolls-Royce? because back in June Rolls-Royce executives and British ministers have already told Turkey that they cannot accept an arrangement that would see TR Motor own and manage the intellectual property of the programme ?????

Sad but true. Western powers never allow them to built their own defence industry. They will always spend their money to expensive weapons which they cant use against their real enemies .It is not risky (never become danger against Israel) but the milky way.
They are not rich but they find gas sources in mediterrenain sea and now spending too much on weapons for what?
Will they use against Turkey? With Israel, Greece,Syria we may have gas field problems but with Egypt we dont have.
They want problem between Egypt and Turkey Like they did between SA and Iran. And the perfect results for Western powers are ganing money and kaos between muslim countries.

I do not think this is the way to go.

With 3 big players like this, the project will almost certainly get bogged down with disagreement on who does what and technology transfer.

Russia has by far the most advanced engine technology and will share nothing with Turkey in this area.

Turkey is probably the most advanced in radar and other avionics.

Iran is the weakest technically in all fields and will generally have nothing to contribute and any critical areas they are responsible for will create a weaker product. Their pride will mean they will not join a project like this.

So the only realistic option is joint Russian - Turkish option with Russia taking the lead in engine, Turkey taking the lead in radar and other avionics and both jointly working on the airframe.

Will Russian pride now allow them to be part of a project where they must accept Turkish leadership in avionics department? I think unlikely as they consider themselves as 2nd only to the US in military power.

Best option is for Turkey to somehow find the 20 billion or so dollars and work with BAE(design and integration) and Rolls Royce(engine) to come up with a world class next generation fighter that can be exported in the hundreds to Muslim world in the 2030s.

The nations who rule the sky with own assets will always be the upper hand when compared with others so the systems developed to rule the sky is strategic enough to change the destiny of nations. The origin of aircraft which is selected to be operated in own sky is actually equal to select an alliance. With TF-X program, Turkey has openly selected own alliance and independence to rule the region with national aircraft, missile, radar and even his turbofan engines. I believe The countries in region along with our Muslim brothers in other regions will certainly benefit positive developments of Turkish strategic programs. Azerbaijan expressed interest to join into TF-X. Qatar will be the shadow partner of such projects. Turkish officials inform Pakistani counterparts about the advancements of this program. I personally wanted to see the name of Indonesia inside Tf-X project since they are advanced in air technologies and Indonesia certainly requires such a platform so They are in S. Korean KF-X program. We missed a great opportunity. Turkish/Indonesian joint programs provide perfect machines in defence industry. The last program Turkey and Indonesia agreed to be partner is Anka-2 drones.

True but without partners like BAe and Rollys Royce, TF-X cannot happen.
Turkey does not have enough experience(systems integration) and enough engine tech currently to successfully develop such an advanced aircraft.
OK to have silent partners like Qatar as they will only be involved in funding.

Sorry, Russian are not the lead in engine, British are the lead in engine you should read more about engine. I haven´t see Russian talking about super alloy fanblades. Ther will be no Russoan involment in TFX.

I meant compared to Turkey.
My reply was to a poster who suggested a collaboration between Turkey, Russia and Iran for TF-X.

My advice is for Turkey to go it alone with engine tech from Rolls Royce and design and systems integration advice from BAe.

If this project is to succeed, it should be indigenous. When you have partners, you have to make compromises.

TF-X may not be F-35 but it would be an accomplishment.
