No buddy, it is not happening in other places, before i was the one that criticized the chinese for this, but now i can see why they have put this measure in place. I wish we had similar if not exactly the same rule in our country(or maybe in pakistan too?)

First of all. Uighurs IMMIGRATED to Xinjiang in the 9th century. Xinjiang has been occupied by Chinese dynasties since Han! 200 BC. Han people had lived there 1100 years when the Uighurs arrived. It is hardly "their" land to start with.

Secondly, China has always been open to all religious faith. Islam has been in China since its inception. Religion is a poor excuse these Uighur terrorists use to justify their means.

The Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), also known as East Turkistan National Revolution Association (ETNRA), and Turkistan Islamic Party, is a small Islamic extremist group based in China's western Xinjiang Province, is one of the most militant of the ethnic Uighur separatist groups pursuing an independent "Eastern Turkistan," which would include Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Xinjiang. ETIM and other overlapping militant Uighur groups are linked to the international mujahidin movement - and to a limited degree al-Qaeda - beginning with the participation of ethnic Uighur mujahidin in the Soviet/Afghan war.


Activities


US and Chinese Government information suggests ETIM was responsible for terrorist acts inside and outside China. Most recently, in May 2002, two ETIM members were deported to China from Kyrgyzstan for plotting to attack the US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan as well as other US interests abroad.

Unknown. Only a small minority of ethnic Uighurs supports the Xinjiang independence movement or the formation of an East Turkistan.

So as a Chinese, do you see the Uighurs as belonging to the Chinese race/country or are they of a foreign race? Historically, were they Chinese or Turkish?

Do you support their demands?

In China, we have a word 中华民族 to include all the peoples/races in China(No including the white people in Hongkong and Macau, but including the Russian and Uighurs in Mainland. and they are recognized as one of the 56 races in China.). Most of the time, the word ' Chinese' in English means Han Chinese. In Chinese, we use 中国人 to include all people here, including Han and other races. So they are 中国人 and 中华民族, But not Han Chinese.

Historically, Xinjiang was ruled by Han Chinese and a lot of archaeological sites in Xinjiang are Han archaeological sites. Uighurs came to Xinjiang much more later than Han. So consider them as 中华民族，and we study the related history about them in school such as 突厥。

Anyway, Xinjiang is always being a part of China, meanwhile we don't have to make Turkey our enemy just because few separatists in Xinjiang.
