Bro i read somewhere that those Gan made radars suck and thats why the Americans dont use them,what you say?


Bro, GaN modules are known as heat resistant and allowing to operate with less power. It is a well known fact that GaN based modules perform better than others on all range scales. It is the reason USA upgrades their Patriot missile RF seeker heads, strategic radars with GaN systems. Gallium Nitrate based modules are being produced by a few institute. It is the reason those high capable state of art radars are not produced on big numbers around the World.

The next-gen Flight III Arleigh-Burke radars (AMDR) will use GaN. Next Generation Jammer will use GaN. The US would be using them everywhere if they could but GaN modules are expensive and hard to make, and military budgets are being cut over there.

GaN is an interesting material. It has many applications and has many exploitable properties for technology. I'll try not to make it too technical.

First one; it has Wurtzite crystal structure. This structure is highly exploited by solid state physics. It is hard, I mean really hard material. And it is relatively possible to produce it as a nearly perfect monocrystal with those properties. It has a wide band gap and it is a semiconductor. It is durable at high temperatures and even at really high temperatures it can continue to work with high frequencies.(Thanks to durable crystal structure and high electron mobility) This is important. If something is usable at very high temperatures, at high frequency with reliability, has a wide band gap, usable with high voltage, has durability against environmental variables this makes that material a perfect candidate for millitary use.

Plus it is really resistant to both ionising photon radiation(gamma and xrays etc.) and ionising hadron radiation(high energy alpha and proton etc.).

At the same time it is a very nice medium for various nanofilm applications. (Nice meaterial to coat) It generally stays same at various enviroments and this is very important for this application.

This material is relatively hard to produce and really hard to produce as a semiconductor application material. But it gives you very interesting possibilities with a material which is highly reliable in any environment. (Including space applications)

One bad side: It is expensive :D

Lens, Raw material developments, thin film covering technologies
-Production of Sapphire based aperture lens have been commenced !

-5N purity Germanium material for lenses have been produced.
-EMI class Germanium materials development proceeding !
-Multiple wavelength optic design, passive athermal LWIR optro-mechanic, optic prototypes are revealed !
-Multiple wavelength active athermal MWIR continuous focusing objective, opto-mechatronic prototypes have been revealed !

Cooled detectors, MCT technology
-Cooled LWIR detectors serial production commenced. The first complete products using domestic cooled LWIR detectors have been revealed !
-Mercury Cadmium Tellurium (MCT) (HgCdTe) based MWIR photo-detector development activities have matured and first successful images taken in 2015.
-OLED based screen project is also completed.

Uncooled detectors
-Uncooled SWIR based detectors development have been matured and first successful images taken in 2015.
-Uncooled thermal detector developments have been matured. (Missile seeker heads, tank thermals, IFV thermals, Thermal binoculars)
-384x288 pixel 25um uncooled detector development efforts successfully completed in 2015.
-640x480 pixel 17um high performance uncooled CMOS detector qualification is proceeding for serial production.
-720x8 pixel MCT sensor has been developed (Missile programs)

Image Intensifiers
-UV image intensifier tube qualification phase has been successfully completed and Aselsan became a rare UV image intensifier tube producer of the World.
-NIR Image intensifier tube is also inside of Aselsan program.
-Cryogenic cooling technology development efforts have been proceeding.

Lazer
-Fiber lazer development efforts have been proceeding
-Quatum well Lazer development efforts have been proceeding.
-Infrared Quantum Long wavelength Lazer development have been proceeding
-Aselsan has matured all processes of Solid State Lazer

Ukroboronprom, Turkey plan joint production of radar equipment

Ukraine's major state-owned arms manufacturer Ukroboronprom and Turkey's Havelsan signed April 8 a memorandum on joint development and production of radar stations, Ukroboronprom’s press service reported.

"Ukroboronprom has significant experience in the development of radar equipment. We will combine our efforts with the leading Turkish company and develop a powerful innovative product that will meet international military standards," the press service quoted Ukroboronprom CEO Roman Romanov as saying.

According to Romanov, one of the priorities of the Ukrainian military and industrial complex is to adopt international standards in arms and military equipment production.

"Turkey is a NATO member, therefore, this experience will allow Ukraine to deepen its military cooperation with NATO countries," the press service went on to say.

It is also reported that Ukroboronprom and Havelsan agreed to expand cooperation in the aviation industry.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukroboronprom signed 15 memorandums on cooperation in the defense industry with Indian companies upon results of visiting DefExpo 2016 arms exhibition in India. According to representatives of Ukroboronprom, Indian companies are interested in developing joint projects in the field of aircraft manufacturing, radar and maritime surveillance systems, modernization of armored vehicles, air defense systems, development of target-seeking devices, as well as joint development of air-to-air missiles.
