Turkish soldiers are seen as they prepare to launch an operation against the terrorist PKK in Bingöl.
19 December 2011 / TODAYSZAMAN.COM,
Turkish security forces on Monday killed 20 members of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in a mass operation carried out against the terrorist group in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, the private Cihan news agency has reported.
The helicopter-backed ground operation reportedly conducted by gendarmerie and police's special operations teams concentrate on the Görese Mountain located near Diyarbakır's Dicle district. Cihan says there are nearly 50 PKK members in the region and that the operation is still underway.
Ten PKK terrorists were earlier killed in an operation in same region on Saturday. The police were alerted to the whereabouts of the terrorists after the Diyarbakır provincial gendarmerie office tracked telephone numbers that had been saved on the cell phone of a slain PKK terrorist, Hüseyin Akdoğan, who was killed in a rural area of Dicle, and discovered that some 50 PKK members were hiding out in four different caves located on Görese Mountain, near the village of Kurşunlu.
