The guy probably died of a heart attack induced by a overdose of cocaine which he had used.

Let us look at the facts:

He was a known criminal.
He had used drugs.
He had an argument with the snackbar owner, when he wanted to use the toilet. (my guess: for drugs).
He smashed up the establisment and was throwing with chairs.
He violently resisted arrest.

Let us wait and see what the investigation brings to light.

The injuries of his face could be self-induced when he was trashing the place apart. He could also have got them when he was resisting violently against the police. Further investigationg is needed.

No I don't have to. The cocaine (probably) was in his system PRIOR taken by himself, before he was taken in custody.

'Arrestant niet dood door politiegeweld'
(Novum) - De 22-jarige arrestant uit Heemskerk die begin deze maand overleed nadat hij onwel werd in een politiecel, is niet gestorven als gevolg van politiegeweld. Dat heeft het Openbaar Ministerie in Haarlem bekendgemaakt, meldt de NOS maandag. Een woordvoerder van het OM is maandag niet direct bereikbaar.

De man, van Turkse komaf, werd in de nacht van zaterdag 2 juli aangehouden in Beverwijk nadat hij door het lint ging in een snackbar. De man was mogelijk onder invloed van alcohol of drugs en verzette zich zo hevig dat agenten geweld moesten gebruiken, meldde de politie eerder.

Ook op weg naar het bureau en eenmaal in de cel bleef de man volgens de politie onrustig. Agenten hielden de man in zijn cel met een camera en een microfoon in de gaten. Ook heeft een arts hem twee keer gecontroleerd. Bij het laatste bezoek van de arts bleek dat de man geen hartslag had. Hij is naar een ziekenhuis gebracht, waar hij overleed.

De dood van de man veroorzaakte veel ophef. De familie van de 22-jarige Heemskerker beweerde dat agenten hem hadden gemarteld. Turkse media spraken er bovendien schande van.

De rijksrecherche onderzoekt naar het overlijden van de arrestant.

Per annum, there is only one death in Amsterdam in police custody. I don't know how many exactly there are in the whole country, but they can't be more than 10.

Alle deaths that occur during police arrest or custody are investigated by the 'Rijksrecherche", which is an independant organ. Kinda like America's Internal Affairs, I guess.
