Building a telescope is high tech believe me, i doubt that there is a company in Turkey that could produce the glass for its mirror.

Just 5 universities is pretty bad for such a big country as Turkey... also their ranking is pretty bad considering that in previous years we had a university or two around the top 100. We should aim higher and try to give a better education to our students. This country can't go forward without having a lot of bright new minds who want to contribute to their country but this can only happen with more and more investments in better schools, teachers, technologies.

ps What will happen with all universities, military academies and schools that were shut down after the coup?

ps2 Do you have any idea how many turkish students are studying in western universities right now?

.
Most of those universities are private universities. It proves that if private sector tries to do something, they are trying to do their best. Because they want to make money. If they won't be best university in that country, they won't make so much money.

I think we must privatize at least half of the State universities. Or even some of the State high schools.

That is no solution, think about the ''poor students'',if the poor have no chance of proper education, the level of society wont increase as needed.
The state uni's need to be better supported by the government.

The day will come that turkey has only academics without any craftsmen!

at least we need someone in turkey building or specializing for glasses and lens mirror etc technology.. also there are some benefits in privat sector for such a company.. we could use some good lenses everywhere from helicopter to uav to sattelites

edit:

also we should make joint venture with samsung to produce cmos etc sensors for digital optical systems.. I chose samsung because we can strengthen our ties with koreans also we have some base in this military cooperation with korea and for the japanese sony I dont know if they ever would sell us or help us in military way..

To everyone wondering why making a telescope mirror is high tech heres a video, even US is importing its glass from Japan.

The scale of its is much smaller and i highly doubt its mirror was made by a Turkish company.
