Turkish Engine Programs

They have had this kind of succes even decades ago, or even better. I have been trying to find the picture of the engine that brought the throphy to ITU students at that time and to no avail. This kind of event can only energise the students for a little time and give them some credit when finding a job after school. It is not that we can't even design (let say sketch) an engine that we were not able to build one. Producing engines takes way more than the skills to draw lines. It takes a firm and lasting support from a big company or government. And now we have it. Just the other day PM Davutoğlu announced that a progragram that will produce an indigenous turbofan engine for the coming indigenous passanger plane has been started. Perhaps one of the students in this project will have the courage to go ask for a job in the govt project, now that they have an achievement under their belt.

Guys can anyone tell me if Turkey can manufracture turbine blades(Aside from Single Crystal Turbine blades ofcourse)? Be it in any forms and materials.

Possibly that ?

Alp Aviation | CGTech
Alp Aviation is the major source for Pratt & Whitney F135 Stage 2, 3, 4 and 5 finished titanium Integrally Bladed Rotors (IBRs) as well as the fan rotor rear hub. The R&D contract between both companies also includes the development of F135 nickel IBR stages.
Cenk Akın, Engine Business Unit Manufacturing Manager, says the data files vary from project to project, sometimes the CAD model is supplied and sometimes just a blueprint for older projects. Solid models will be generated from these older files to create a base model.
He explains: “All of our NC programs are generated offline. In Plant 1 we have 17 Siemens NX and five Catia CAD/CAM software seats. The CAD/CAM path is selected simply by whichever engineer is available when the project starts. However, in Plant 2 we only use Siemens NX, with five seats, as well as specific software for turbine blade production.”

Tubitak showed some off they produced for Gas Turbines, I haven't been able to find anything on it since.. like it got wiped from the internet or my search terms are wrong..

it resembled that black blade on the left in different sizes..

This must be it;

I got the exact same problems. I clearly remember Turkey producing whole Turbine engine blades (there were photo's and all) but i cant seem to find anything. I vaguely remember the material being Titanium but i cant be sure.

"Quote" : is Alp not producing blades ?

OK here it Comes :

Unfortunately Google deletes many which is for public use.

I couldn't even find ZEKs master Thesis Master Google says " some results deleted for protection of personal data (Datenschutz) "; but I remember for sure that I readed it. ( shit full 3-4 paper Sheets as PDF)

This?
TÜBİTAK TÜRBİN YAPACAK - Gebze Medyası - Haber

Nothing about materials used, most likely titanium could be ceramic..

SÜPERALISIM malzeme = super alloy material; it can be a material comparable to COROMANT from SANDVIK Sweden used in SAAB Aero engines

FROM 2007 Coromant Flyer :

"Because many of these parts find their way into jet engines, heat-resistant super alloys of titanium and nickel, for ex ample, must be used to withstand the tremen dous heat. These metals also have very high strength-to-weight ratios, making them ideal for fl ow rotors, compressor wheels and other forged items.
But we have accredited a foundry each in Sweden, Turkey and Spain, and more will follow."

well that is a good idea to have 2 engine suppliers but it would be costly two have them. this is because each engine is different and the airframe would need to be modified to accommodate different engines, and this would also mean the engine control software would need to be different for each engine. rolls royce is a partner of honeywell but this should not affect anything as long as if the mtr-390 engines parts are not made in the US.

what about the s70... tai builds them, do they build the engine too? if so is the engine powerful enough to meet the requirements to fit the t129? hence making the t129 un-sanctionable

There are several posts about engine developments in this thread, yet we dont produce engines for S-70 ,and TEI is responsible with engines for aircrafts along other companies involving recently. They do production under the licence with some parts delivered in packs.

Designing a platform might be ok when the customer is found . Seems like there is already a turboshaft engine in the future program, if the engine gets larger then can be considered for T129 as well.

National Powerpack Development

tumosan-imza-765x510.jpg

Objective : To nationally design, development, production powerpacks to meet the requirements of naval and land platforms, particularly tanks.

Scope : Indigenous design, development, production, test and qualification of powerpacks for use in primarily Altay Tank by maximizing the utilization of national capabilities and by enlisting technical support and assistance from abroad when required.Ultimately gaining complete know-how for powerpack design, development, system integration, production, testing, qualification, modification and maintenance.

Project Model : Local development

Prime/Sub Contractor : TÜMOSAN A.Ş.

Contract Date : 17.03.2015

Status : In compliance with the Defence Industry Executive Committee decision, the Powerpack Development Project Contract was signed between SSM and TÜMOSAN A.Ş. on March 17th 2015 and contractual activities are ongoing for the advanced payment.

National Powerpack Development

National powerpack project aims to develop Land vehicle engine family from 1500hp to 1000 and other less powerfull engine variants to power up almost all armoured&civilian platforms along with gathering serious knowledge for engine&transmissin technologies in new Tumosan factory to be opened.

Austrian Know-how for Turkish Tank Engine

ANKARA — A Turkish company commissioned to develop an engine for the country’s future tank has signed a deal with an Austrian company for technical support.

The privately owned Turkish engine maker TUMOSAN said it signed an agreement with AVL List, an Austrian firm, to get technical support for the power unit of the Turkish tank, the Altay, and its integration to the tank.

Procurement officials said they did not object to any deal involving foreign technical support for what Turkey aims to make an indigenous tank as long as foreign support did not cause licensing problems.

“TUMOSAN, like other companies, should feel free to get technical support from abroad, but it should finally have the intellectual property rights and export licenses for each engine part,” said one official.

In March, TUMOSAN signed a €190 million (US $206.35 million) contract with the Turkish government to design an engine for the Altay, now under development.

The program involves the indigenous design, development, prototype production, testing and qualification of an engine for the Altay. TUMOSAN also will design and develop a transmission for the tank and produce critical parts for its engine, including the diesel pump, electronic control unit and injector.

TUMOSAN says it aims to conclude the program within 54 months and "with maximum possible local content."

The critical engine deal came as Turkey's procurement authorities prepare to officially launch a multibillion-dollar competition for the serial production of the Altay. The contract may eventually involve 1,000 tanks to be acquired in batches of 250.

Cabatlı did you heard anything about the 3.1KN Turbofan Project. It ought to start by the beginning of this year. 10 months passed, i still heard nothing ?

Another thing is about the LAHIKA-A project (1000-1500 shp Gas Turbine Engine Project) which i covered before. Turkish engine thread | Page 18

It has been over 1 year since the project titles have been declared but again we heard nothing till then.
