Turkish-Armenian scribe sentenced to 13 months for blasphemy in blog post

My man Turkey always had it's limitations for the freedom of speech.
If someone is going to insult the entire population on the base og ethnicity or religion, punishments always will follow.

and where does it stop? Once everyone who disagrees with Islam is in jail?

Does it hurt you, that someone thinks that Islam is backwardness? No. Does it offend you? Probably.

. .
So basicly only on islamic limitations have been out in jail?

So funny.

Like I said people that were applauding the jailing of Hrant Dink for insulting turkishness , somehow manage to be really tolerant towards religious insults.

I dont think that anyone should be put in jail for words, as long as he's not calling for the annhilation of a race or ethnicity, group whatever. Thats the way we handle it here in Germany.

May I ask you something? Do you think that its right to put people in jail for expressing their opinion?

And do you believe that that AKP member with his tweet will face a jail term?

But that same secularism also punished people for their freedom of expression.

So two wrong make a right?

.
In the Quran it doesn't say throw somebody in jail if he questions my existance on twitter, this AKP will ruin Turkey because there is no ends or bounds to these people. Next thing is let's ban alcohol because it insults me, let's ban jeans because it gives me a hardon, let's ban this and that. It will never stop. I'm telling you.

.
I think a little punishment like money or smth like that would have been enough i would this also say by christians and jews because he is a famous person his words will be seen or heard by more people.

I'm for a punishment for insulting people based on ethnicity religion and yes this also includes insulting atheist people.
So your question whether this akp should be punished is yes.

What I do not agree with is the punishment itself. It should be a fine first and only after repeated offences jail punishment should be considered.

And yes you're right two wrongs don't make one right. But it sure as hell exposes the double standards some of the people have :)

You're thinking in boxes.

I have the same problem with two friends of mine who will tell me in discussion randomly that "my people" did the same but I have no party, hence no double standards. You are full of stereotypes thats why you're implying that some (in that case TurAr) were satisfied with Hrant Dink beeing prosecuted. But guess what, there are also people who put certain principles (freedom, free-speech) before anything (party, ideologies) else.

It's Islam. Its in its nature to destroy anything that is free.

Please elaborate further the nature of Islam and enlighten us with your wisdom...The blame here should be addressed to administrators who are practising such certain undemocratic laws..Not Islam..With this BS comment, you are in the same bag with idiots who sentenced this Armo

A ban on alcohol is also in it's way, no bar/restaurant as close as 600m to a Mosque will be allowed to serve alcohol

Do a bit of research before posting..There is no ban on alcohol..There will be a ban on some certain places where you just cant sell/serve alcohol in 100m perimeter of religious and education buildings...Which is totally justifiable...

Sharia here we come.

I will take my girl to a restaurant where we will have some wine and will celebrate our 2nd anniversary...Please inform me when Sharia comes...My god

Our democracy is so advanced that if it advance a little bit further, people won't be able to see it anymore.

This is even more absurd than the Fazıl Say's case :disagree:

Lol man...Thats so true...But you know what?? We deserve it..Unless we get rid of our habit of "selling votes for 2 kgs of sugar and coal" those badem bıyıklılar will be on our neck..Thats for sure

My friend I'm not thinking in boxes at all. But you're putting people in boxes even if they don't belong there.
My question does expose the double standards some people have, hence also the answers like two wrong 1 right statement.

The matter of fact is putting freedom pf expression before everything else will never work in Turkey, we're not as passive as western europe.
If ataturk is systematicly insulted in Turkey protests will pop up around the nation.
If Islam is sytematicly insulted in Turkey protests will also pop up around the nation.

The funny thing is that in both of the protests the same people attend it.

Far corners in ideology in Turkey can not accept that the middle man is a Turk who's proud of his Turkish roots and proud of his religion.

1. I have come to to conclusion that countries without Islam are on average more underdeveloped than others. That's just my opinion please don't sue me, not you Bronze_Plaque.

2. How many mosques does the average Turkish city have? 100m should be enough to make sure that certain areas like streets around Istiklal Caddesi in Istanbul will be alcohol free soon, you think thats justifiable?

3. Enjoy it while it lasts. One way or the other the AKP is trying to enforce its way of life to the Turkish people: higher taxes on alcohol and tobacco, tobacco (and the coming alcohol) ban, jailing people for blasphemy, the planned and (no pun intended) aborted abortion laws. If you don't see a pattern here mate, I cant help you.

The matter of fact is putting freedom pf expression before everything else will never work in Turkey, we're not as passive as western europe.

+1
that's the problem

Alright guys put in your bets,
In how many years will Turkey be turned into a sharia law ruled sh*thole?

.
If there was an insult, there should be an equivalent response (which never could be jailing!!!)

Personally, I am not anti-religious. But when I review "how have our government reached this state of the art governing situation?" I remember a religious leader, 50 years ago, who was telling the nation that "west insults Islam". Yaaa, thats how it starts. I am sure most of people had never imagined the final station!

On the other side, all the people in Turkey are not fully educated and knowledgeable to know how to respond the insults, maturely. Some extremist will start to spread violence in the society. To avoid them, government should react to insults ... but there are fundamental questions:

1. what is insult?
2. penalties?
3. Reality of Erdogan dreams?

Very complicated. You really need a strong, dynamic and motivated opposition. What is people opinion about Gul's leadership as replacement of Erdogan?
