Ancient Turkic sports were nothing more than to get ready for war but also to stay fit along with showcasing the best of horsemanship and archery.

Good to see it getting revived but also showcases the link of the Turks of Turkiye with the Turks of Central Asia.

“This king Timur is one of the greatest and mightiest of kings. Some attribute to him knowledge, others attribute to him heresy because they note his preference for the ‘members of the House’ (of ῾Ali); still others attribute to him the employment of magic and sorcery, but in all this there is nothing; it is simply that he is highly intelligent and very perspicacious, addicted to debate and argumentation about what he knows and also about what he does not know. “He is between sixty and seventy years old. His right knee is lame from an arrow which struck him while raiding in his boyhood, as he told me; therefore he dragged it when he went on short walks, but when he would go long distances men carried him with their hands. He is one who is favored by Allah—the power is Allah’s, and he grants it to whom he chooses of his creatures.”

- Ibn Khaldun on Timur

It's been 75 years since the forced deportation of up to 120,000 Turks from their homes in the former Soviet Union. Joseph Stalin packed them onto trains to central Asia, because he viewed them, as well as other minorities, as a security threat to the USSR. The Ahiska Turks were the last of the deported minorities to return. TRT World's Diplomatic Correspondent Andrew Hopkins reports from southern Georgia.

There have been Muslim Turks, Christian Turks and even Jewish Turks.

All three of these religions are alien to us. Just imagine what the world could've been like if our own religion was effective at converting others. If we were as good at bullshittery as the Arabs, the Jews and the European Christians then we could have had a completely different world. But no. Tengrism was unfortunately a very pure religion that didn't have a book.
