Turkey's last warning to the West before it's too late

Unless the Western leaders see the danger posed by their populist policies, which Turkey has already warned them about, the world will become an even more chaotic place

Both Erdoğan and Çavuşoğlu made many points. To start with, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu and Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya should not have been blocked by the Netherlands. Being senior figures, and just like all other foreign ministers and politicians, they should be treated with the respect they and Turkey deserve. The Dutch authorities defend their wrong policies by saying that they were going to Holland as party politicians, not government officials. So what? While they allow all opposition voices, what is the problem with being a party politician? Is favoring some voices above others the new essence of free speech in Europe? Wasn't the EU proud of allowing all people to be heard, giving them a platform? Is it okay to give a green light to others, including outlawed terror groups like the PKK or the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) and to stop the governing AK Party politicians? Germany, Austria and Switzerland have also blocked Turkish ministers from rallies within their borders. Some European authorities, like German Chancellor Angela Merkel, have said they will do all they can to prevent Turkey's domestic tensions spreading into their territories. If so, why are so many new campaigns coming out of Europe everyday about Turkey's upcoming constitutional referendum? European newspapers are saturated with headlines on Turkey; experts, politicians and even jurists are looking for a ‘No' vote. If the Europeans say they want to stay out of it, so they should stay out of it; but no, they cannot stop themselves campaigning against the Turkish government and of course Erdoğan. If Turkey had refused a European politician's entry to attend an organization in Turkey, what would the whole Western world be saying right now? After all, they had already started a verbal war with Turkey for less. The Turks are offended, and they have every right to question the real purpose behind the curtains, which gets thinner nowadays. Extremists, nationalists and separatists are on the rise in all Western countries, and the mainstream parties put the blame on them. But are the center parties really dedicated to their values that make them so proud? To defeat extremists in the elections, they come up with restrictions, bans, limiting liberties, anti-migrant policies and isolationism. The new ban of the European Union's top law court, for instance.

Employers are now entitled to ban their staff from wearing visible religious symbols. You may say that it is not just for Muslims, but it is certainly intolerable for them. It is a direct attack on Muslim women wearing hijabs at work. This is the court, which said many times until recently that banning the wearing of any political, philosophical or religious sign would be direct discrimination. Can someone show me the difference between the ECJ's ban on headscarves and new U.S. President Donald Trump's travel ban, please? Then, where are all the liberals and democrats who were on the streets for nights and days to be in solidarity with Muslims now? President Erdoğan is totally right to compare the situation to a struggle between the cross and the crescent. And so is Minister Çavuşoğlu arguing that holy wars will soon begin in Europe. The refusal by the West to accept the equality of Muslims and Muslim nations is the sign of a clash of civilizations. The new way of making politics in the West makes religious provocations soar to new highs. Militant secularism is taking the place of pluralism, liberties and rights. The way things are going, sadly, it will not be surprising to see more violence in Europe and all across the world as well.

If you have decided to clench your fists, you are getting ready for a fight; if you hit, you will be hit back. The next phase is guns and bombs. Extremists like Geert Wilders and Marine Le Pen do not have to win the elections; their views are already the EU's new policies. President Erdoğan and other government officials are raising their voices since Western governments have aggrieved Turks and Muslims. But their words are not threats, just warnings. Erdoğan warned the U.S. and the EU many times about Syria, Iraq and the high possibility of rising terror, the risks of sectarian violence, the refugee influx and humanitarian disaster. Turkish authorities said hundreds of times that Western countries would be affected too if they underestimated the real situation in the Middle East. They ignored those warnings and chose to proceed with their mistaken policies. And here we are now. Turks are warning one last time. They are asking: "Are you aware that you are playing with fire? What on earth is going on? Are you insane?" The rest is up to the Western governments.

I do not wish to debate the point that should party politicians be allowed to address rallies of expats oin other nations or not.

To me what stands out is that the Turkish diplomatic Corps should have prepared the ground prior to arrival of their ministers in The Netherlands. This is basic protocol.

Maybe they did & the Dutch said No. The turks were then attempting to score brownie points back home by crying foul.

All in all a completely avoidable controversy.

Things would have calmed down if they had not given permission for rally to the PKK terrorists. Turkey is no Pakistan, it won't accept the way the Europeans are supporting terrorism against Turkey. Things are already nasty in Turkey for those PKK terrorists and now Turkey will make sure that things get nasty in Europe too.

Proof. Germany tried to overthrow Erdogan

Some of the previous weeks have been highlighted by a new wave of tensions between Germany and Turkey. Actions of the German government raise a lot of questions, but even now it is clear that they are not just ready to use all the possible options against Turkey – they are already actively doing so.

Last year's attempted coup was organized by the enemies of Turkey with the assistance of Merkel and German secret services, who aimed to overthrow Erdogan and replace him with a politician loyal to Berlin. That was confirmed by the German passports, obtained from the high ranking Turkish servicemen accountable for the failed coup. (bit. do/djaxm)

German politicians do not hesitate to use downright lies and offences. For instance, Erika Steinbach claimed that Turks assaulted the Christians and discredited president Erdogan by an offensive tweet. (bit. do/djaxr) And then German authorities put ban upon Turks in Germany to have rallies in support of Erdogan allegedly for safety reasons. But at the same time they allowed Kurds to celebrate Newroz which quickly turned into anti-Erdogan rallies.

What is that if not an open anti-Turkey policy and double standards?

Germany suspends arms deliveries to NATO ally Turkey amid fight against Daesh, PKK

Amid an escalating diplomatic row between Turkey and Germany that resulted after German authorities banned Turkish minister meetings while allowing terrorist groups to march in the country, the German government moved to block arms deliveries to Turkey, a key NATO ally in the fight against terrorism.

The German government has blocked 11 weapons deliveries to Turkey, which is actively fighting against PKK and Daesh terror groups on Turkish soil and on the ground in Iraq and Syria. The blocked deliveries began in the start of 2016, according to a document issued by the Economy Ministry and reported by dpa.

The arms deliveries - which included hand-held weapons, ammunition and weapons components - were blocked because of alleged human rights considerations, the ministry said in response to a question submitted by left-wing lawmaker Jan van Aken.

The ministry said they made the decision to block the exports to Turkey out of fear that the weapons could be used "in the context of domestic repression or in the Kurdish conflict," referring to Turkey's 40-year-long fight against the PKK, which is designated a terrorist group by the U.S., the EU and NATO.

Van Aken, a weapons expert for the opposition Left Party in parliament, welcomed the government's decision, saying it marked a precedent to deny arms deliveries to fellow members of the NATO military alliance.

"The next step must be that Turkey gets absolutely no weapons from Germany," he told German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Germany is the provider of Leopard tanks to Turkey, in addition to Heckler & Koch MP5 automatic rifles mainly used by the security forces in urban counter-terror operations.

In response to Austrian officials' statements targeting Turkey and its European Union accession process, Turkish officials blocked several projects in 2017, mostly military training ones, involving Austria as part of the Partnership for Peace (PfP) program.

Following reports that Turkey's move would affect non-NATO member countries involved in the PfP program, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg urged the two countries to resolve the diplomatic dispute, which ultimately led to the blocking of some cooperation programs on March 17.

Turkey now awaits the response of NATO on Germany's unilateral move blocking arms supplies amid the country's intense fight against the Daesh terrorist group in its south.

Turkey also fights the PKK terror group in its southeast, which has killed more than 1,200 security forces and civilians since it relaunched its 40-year-long armed insurgency against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Turkish officials have repeatedly blamed German authorities for harboring terrorist groups targeting Turkey, such as the PKK, the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) and the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C).

Turkey happens to be in the most volatile region in the world at the moment. It should focus on surviving the aftermath of Syria, NATO/Russia powerplay and the Iran/Saudi/Israel death match that has made the entire region a warzone.

ERDOGAN wants to be a dictator. And he will most probably succeed. And in his success lies the defeat of Turkey. The path to his populism is paved with the destruction of Turkey's relationship with the West. Not to mention the destruction of democracy within Turkey.

Turkey overestimate their power in the world stage amd they are just a balloon with no air. And Pakistan makes them feel good by praising them.

I don't think they would be listening to PDF members here to feel good or for that matter the Government of Pakistan, unless and until it is a strictly bilateral matter. Erdogan has reasons to be pissed about when it comes to limited autonomy in NATO, but he is not the one who signed up to join NATO. Every member is bound by a set of common rules which are applicable as much to Germany and France as much as it is to Turkey.

He can always propose withdrawal from NATO and form his own defence bloc along with other Middle Eastern countries.

Sure, Turkey is the most powerful economy in the Middle East, but these kind of articles simply look like an instrument of distraction while Mr. Erdogan consolidates his political power further.

Turkey as a political entity is far more smart, mature and realistic in its assessment of global powers.

There's a reason why each of those countries are called sovereign countries.

How would you feel if RSS members come to Bangladesh and campaign for a Hindu dominant Bangladesh in the future? Same here.

It is the same for the Europeans. Political campaigning cannot be done abroad in another country, especially with such threatening overtones. It is absolutely immature of Mr. Erdogan to expect that the west or anyone else would accommodate to such absurd requests.

Even when our PM Mr. Modi visited US and met US-based Indians, he met them as the PM of India and not as a BJP party leader.

Campaigning openly for a future altering the demographics of that country and asking the locals to accept it is like saying a person X will come and kill person Y sometime in the future and that Y should accept X's demand to come to the former's house.

ERDOGAN wants to be a dictator. And he will most probably succeed. And in his success lies the defeat of Turkey. The path to his populism is paved with the destruction of Turkey's relationship with the West. Not to mention the destruction of democracy within Turkey.

He stands against everything the great Mustafa Kemal built. That man sacrificed his family life and worked for his nation. Sadly, Mr. Erdogan is undoing it all for his political ambitions.

Germany has this miserable policy of stopping weapons shipments during a conflict.

There's a reason why we don't buy much from them despite their high tech weapons.

Unfortunately we have our share or mentally ill populist governments. We have one now.

Populism in itself isn't a problem; but your president is burning down all other institutions in your country. That is dangerous. There is no harm in being a people's leader. RTE just needs to come back to the present era; he is still stuck in the Ottoman times in his mind and thinks that he needs to re-create it.

You have a beautiful country with great cultural values. Turkey has been probably the most politically reliable country in entire Euro-middle eastern region.

I really hope the Turks can reclaim their country.

This will ensure that Germany drops in the list of reliable weapons manufacturers who can be depended upon in the times of conflict.

We pakistani's have deep love for the turks and they consider us bretherins too that bieng said turkey surely is no pakistan, turkey has been a slave of the west for the past 80 yrs and thanks bee to erdogan that now they are owning their islamic heritage and are standing up to the west bit pakistan has been doing that on behalf of the muslim world for rhe past 60 yrs, we broke up soviet union the powerhouse of athiesm, we trapped usa in afghanistan, we became the only nuclear power in the muslim world, the west considers pakistan the only threat among all muslim countries turkey inculded so dont try to insult pakistan, we are the only country in the islamic world to succesfully defeat western backed terrorists and insurgencies, i repeatnwe are the only one...

Okay next time I'll ask a Pakistani member like mastan khan to point out the patriotism or follies of the Pakistani leaders. I never deny the achievements of Pakistan, I was simply trying to poit out the weaknesses so that Pakistan has a chance to overcome them but I can see that you take criticism for hostility. Remember flattery gets you nowhere but a bottomless pit.

If you don't mind dictatorships where voting and vote counting are done by the ruling party thugs why do you mind it in Turkey where at least voters can have free and fair elections?
