Turkey To Join Coalition Against ISIS ?

Whatever we do, it won't be public because that's now how we roll, and now there are also the hostages to take into consideration.

Hostages will be a nice way for AKP to excuse themselves of any hard labour but in the end the mood in the political spectrum is swinging against the Syrian revolution and ISIS, so we will follow.

Everybody is hating on us for ''letting terrorists through'' without taking into consideration that everyone supported everyone in the beginning, only after Western interests got a hit the ball started rolling.

Turkey joins anti-ISIL coalition, opens İncirlik for logistics ops

On Thursday Aug. 21, 2014, a U.S. Air Force F-15 requested an emergency landing in Turkey. It had been hit in its hydraulic systems during operations against the forces of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) and was in no condition to reach as far as its original base in Qatar.

Permission was granted by the Turkish General Staff to use the Batman air base in southeast Turkey, near the Iraqi border. Turkish F-16s escorted the U.S. plane for the Batman landing. For the repairs, a U.S. team of technicians relocated to Batman from the İncirlik air base near Adana, in southern Turkey, for a few days. The American jet then took off for Qatar, again escorted by Turkish F-16s until reaching the Turkish-Iraqi border.

A Turkish official source, who told me about the incident on condition of anonymity, underlined that permission was only granted because the life of a pilot was in danger and also out of solidarity between NATO members. “Otherwise,” the source said, “Turkey is keen not to take part in any active military operation in the region for the time being. But İncirlik is available for use for humanitarian and logistical operations within the struggle against ISIL.”

İncirlik is a Turkish Air Force Base co-operated by NATO. It is listed by the U.S. Air Force as being among its top Main Operating Bases facilities. Now, after U.S. President Barack Obama publicly named Turkey as part of the coalition to fight against the threat posed by one of the most violent formations of modern times, ISIL, Turkey has opened up the base - not for operational use, but logistics only. The issue was discussed on Sept. 8, during the visit of U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to Ankara, where he met Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and Chief of General Staff Necdet Özel. There was also a follow up call by the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

Actually, the shipment of non-lethal material to Iraqi Army and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) forces in Iraq through Incirlik and via Turkish air space has already started, according to Turkish and Western diplomatic sources.

“The Americans have not asked for the operational use of İncirlik anyway,” a Turkish diplomatic source explained. “We explained our position and they sympathized. We have to act with caution regarding the Turkish captives in the hands of ISIL.” The source was referring to the 49 Turkish citizens, including Consul General Öztürk Yılmaz, who have been held as captives by ISIL since the raid on Turkey’s Mosul Consulate building on June 11.

Turkey is now a part of the coalition against ISIL, along with the U.S., Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Hungary from Europe, Australia, and Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar, and Bahrein from the Arab geography. “The number is tending to increase,” the Turkish source said.

Turkey takes its place in the coalition with three functions for the time being:

1- Logistical and humanitarian-purpose use of İncirlik and other Turkish military bases.

2- Opening up the Turkish air space for humanitarian and logistical flights to support the anti-ISIL fight in Iraq (“But no armed flights, including drones,” the official underlines.)

3- Extra measures on border security. Turkey has a 910 km border with Syria, and a 384 km border with Iraq; both of which are rough terrains. Turkey has already been cooperating with its NATO allies against “foreign fighters” - those carrying American or European passports travelling via Turkey to join either ISIL or al-Qaeda - for the last few months. It seems now that the cooperation will expand to include more effective law enforcement measures.

Both Turkish and Western sources say the framework of the cooperation might change regarding the “new” U.S. strategy expected to be announced by Obama.

Turkey Denies U.S. Permission for Combat Attacks on ISIL | Washington Free Beacon

Turkey will not allow a U.S.-led coalition to attack Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists in Iraq and Syria from Turkish air bases, AFP reports.

Turkey will also not participate in combat operations but will instead focus on humanitarian aid to the countries. ISIL currently controls large portions of territory in Iraq and Syria along Turkey’s borders.

” Turkey will not be involved in any armed operation but will entirely concentrate on humanitarian operations,” a government official told AFP.

Turkey has come under fire by some critics for indirectly encouraging the formation of ISIS because of its support of Islamist opponents of Syrian President Bashar Assad, and its loose control of its borders.

Turkey is reluctant to attack ISIL due to the high number of Turkish hostages ISIL is holding, according to AFP.

I think it's a lie, just to say look we didn't do anything (because of the hostages).
We don't like being open regarding military operations.

Turkey signed up for Obama’s “core coalition” against the Islamic State on Friday at the NATO summit — the only Muslim country in the group. But its leaders have indicated that they are reluctant to take a visible role, worried that any overt Turkish military action could endanger 49 Turkish citizens whom the Islamist extremist group is holding hostage.

Turkey does not publicly acknowledge that , the U.S. military has been flying unarmed surveillance drones over Iraq from Incirlik Air Base. Turkey has been holding the line at authorizing airstrikes or combat missions from its territory.

Only thing we should focus now is the security of our borders. When the 49 diplomats get released which I highly doubt. Then we may bomb the Kurds in Syria and Iraq and ISIS back to stone age. But doubts again, the gov't don't have that guts.

Good decision. Turkey shouldn't get involved in political game of West where they claim to support Syrian opposition then form a coalition to attack the Syrian opposition. It's a game of prolonged conflict in which Western/Israeli interests are served. Tomorrow this coalition will be anti-Assad, then the next anti-opposition. It's meant to weaken all nations in the region and keep Syria conflict prolonged. There is no serious initiative to solve the problems in the region. There is only Israel, everything must go according to how Israel wants it to.

Those who you call the syrian opposition kidnapped 80 Turkish citizens 49are stilll captive including 3 children, Turkey would have bombed isis to stone age if someone like Tansu Ciller was the prime minister she almost finished pkk back in 90s, this woman has more balls than Erdogan believe me.

Turkey made mistakes:

First in 90's, by allowing USA to create a no-fly zone, which enabled Kurdistan.
Then in 2000's, by selecting Erdogan who was/is the co-partner in New World Order, and American stooge.
Thirdly in 2010's, by entering directly in Syrian civil war and having responsibility in this chaos.

What can be worse!? Sending Turkish soldiers to fight side by side with PKK?

.
Wait until we find out that isis is headquartered in Istanbul. Tayyip gambled and lost.

I honestly don't know why people like you get involved in politics. You're always looking to score brownie points. If you think US policy is about weakening ISIS and has nothing to do with Iraq/Syria status than you're clueless.

I am referring to larger picture in my post which you can't understand because politics is not your strong spot.

Exclusive: How Istanbul Became a Recruiting Ground for Islamic State
http://www.newsweek.com/2014/09/19/...e-recruiting-ground-islamic-state-269247.html

Turkey is slowly advancing to 3-sided civil war. Nationalists, Islamists, Kurds. It doesnt require to be a genius in order to understand we are playing last minutes before the storm. It is obvious but sheeps never learn. And They are going to pay for their choice.

Just an interview with Dogan Gures from 2007: ABD-AB, Türkiye'nin bölünmesini istiyor / Yazarlar / Milliyet Gazete

Turgut Ozal invited 1.5 mio Kurds to Turkey during 1980's.
RTE invited 1.5 mio Arabs to Turkey lately.

What can I say? Democracy is hell for intelligent people.
