Turkeys Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has praised Iran's efforts to secure the freedom of two Turkish journalists who went missing in Syria about two months ago.
Ankara has been in contact with the Iranian officials since the journalists went missing to ask for help with their freedom, he told reporters during his ongoing visit to Moldova on Sunday.
Asked why the journalists were first delivered to Tehran, Davutoglu said countries usually consult and cooperate with one another in such cases and there is no difference between neighboring countries for handling these issues.
In such matters, getting positive results is what matters. Turkey always cooperates with Iran and other countries on such issues and in some cases, they help Turkey, he added.
Earlier on Sunday, the Turkish foreign minister announced that the two Turkish journalists were freed in Syria following mediation by Iran.
I have good news: our longstanding efforts have finally paid off. I just spoke to Irans foreign minister, Mr. Salehi. Hamit Coskun and Adem Ozkose, who havent been heard of since they went to Syria, are on their way to Tehran at the moment, he told reporters.
The two journalists were flown to the Iranian capital Tehran, where they are waiting for a plane to take them home.
They were detained while making a documentary in Syria in the northwestern province of Idlib on March 9.
Many foreign journalists have sneaked into Syria in recent months to cover the crisis. Some of them have died in crossfire between Syrian security forces and armed groups fighting the government.
