Turkey not worried about anti-Iran embargo

Turkey's Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan declared that Ankara wil never observe the American-Western embargo imposed unilaterally on Iran, remarking that, in its relations with neighbors, his country will follow foremost its sovereign interests.

In a televised declaration, Caglayan indicated that the US embargo is Washington's problem and the Western embargo is the EU's problem.

He stressed: "Certains countries aren't happy with the change in Turkey's exports following the world economic crisis".

"Those who can't criticize Turkey when it comes to its economic development, use as an excuse Turkey's exports to Iran in order to attack us", he said.

Washington extends sanction exemptions to nine other countries

This Friday the US has decided to extend exemptions from sanctions on imports of Iranian oil to nine new countries, including the Asian giants, China and India, according to a statement of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The Obama administration ruled that those countries (China, India, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Taiwan) have already taken measures to reduce their imports of Iranian crude oil and that they won't therefore be involved in the US economic sanctions against Iran regarding its nuclear program.
