Donald Trump has reaffirmed his demand that the Taliban return almost $7 billion in military hardware that was left behind when the United States withdrew from Afghanistan in August 2021. This call is a part of Trump's larger attack on the Biden administration for its chaotic and careless handling of the pullout. Trump contends that the return of this military equipment—which includes planes, cars, weapons and cutting-edge technologies—should be a requirement for any further U.S. assistance to Afghanistan.

The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) initially received the aforementioned equipment over a 16-year period. However, a large portion of this weaponry ended up in the hands of the Taliban once the Afghan government fell. According to confirmation from the U.S. Department of Defense, approximately $7.12 billion worth of equipment including military vehicles, communications equipment, planes, and air-to-ground missiles remained in Afghanistan following the pullout. Trump has voiced his displeasure with the Taliban's display deployment of this weaponry, pointing out that it includes better than we have weapons, trucks, tanks and night goggles.

Trump's general position on American military strategy and international affairs is reflected in his demand for the return of this equipment. According to him United States should not give aid to nations that don't match it with concrete measures like giving back military property that has been seized. Trump's America First agenda which puts American interests first and aims to reduce losses in foreign affairs includes this strategy. Taliban's hold on Afghanistan and the logistical difficulties of reclaiming such a large quantity of military equipment however, cast doubt on the viability of doing so.
