2) Why US waited until they crossed Pakistan border and asked Pakistan to rescue instead???

I think we are thinking too much about this. This is a positive development for both US and Pak. They are clearly acknowledging it that Pakistani troops freed them while their involvement was restricted to intelligence sharing and this is what we have been asking for all the time. Though rational experts will question it soon that what the hell US forces were doing at Afghanistan side of the border when they were crossing into Pakistan.

I am glad that the tough ordeal for the family has over!
Now does that this show that Pak is finally taking on the Haqqanis, that is a different story! Hope it is the case, but I am not betting on it, I see this more as carrot to the US as two their important lieutenants will be visiting Pak soon.
As for them being in Afghanistan and crossing the border and then Pak taking action is laughable, they were in Pak along with the other Professors of the American University, and the Haqqanis were pressing for their release for the their brethren in Afghan captivity. Afghan commandos and US special forces can strike any point in the Afghan geography and carry out rescue missions and these maggots have zero chance of surviving and that is the reason they move to Pakistan.

If me and my wife were kidnapped and held by a radical terrorist group in a poor third world country the last in my mind will be to make more babies.

Granted it might have been difficult for them to remain five years without having sex, but they could have used contraceptives/condoms and if there was none available then at least try and pull out before .........
