Transit: The lose-lose game

And I'm correct

List of Indian states by GDP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Per capita incomes of 5 of the 7 sisters (in $)

Arunachal Pradesh :1,090

Sikkim : 1,033

Mizoram: 971

Meghalaya: 899

Tripura: 756

Per Capita income of Bangladesh: 550

That's the Gross Domestic Product per capita at current prices. It is not adjusted for inflation and converted to US dollars applying market exchange rates.

If you adjust inflation, its $1,700 (2010 estimate).

I think transit for india will be win win for both. India can get simpler access to its territories and BD can earn money goodwill and new trade opportunities with the second fastest growing large economy in the world. the AL is a wise govt (after all they are the ones who won BD its independence) and doing what is good for their people. In 5 yrs the area will be prosperous

Whatever boss. I could really care less about 'I am more superior than the bhartis' attitude. I mean really, the line is getting boring.

The article does make sense, although undoubtedly has political intentions in it.

with respect, i dont think it even makes sense. the assumption underlying this article is that india wants transit thru BD if there is a war with china. I think its baseless. what if BD shuts of transit during a war to maintain neutrality??? then the whole article falls flat. there is a mindset in the article which is similar to pakistani conpiracy theorists. thats all

That's one of the factors the article took into account. Anyways, security is a matter of the security forces. And India already has many military bases in the NE regions if I am not mistaken. Now, if India or even China wanted to use our territory, even in the event of WW III, we won't allow it  Simple.

Here is the important part:
Though the Indian Government has earmarked $1billion as aid for developing our transport infrastructure geared to transit, the people of Bangladesh want trade not aid. The big question is -- why should we take the economic and dependency burden of this aid package when the foundations on which it is being promoted go squarely against all interests of Bangladesh and of the economic wellbeing of the people of the region.

Transit is being promoted on myths -- the regional economic integration myth

As per the present draft of the transit proposal -

a. Goods will be conceptualised, designed, manufactured, packaged and put into sealed containers.

b. The goods will then travel through Bangladesh territory.

c. They will then be unloaded in the NE. There they will be warehoused, advertised, marketed, and distributed.

The activities (a) and (c) will be taking place in India. These activities will have no contribution to our economy. As the North East develops, the growth of the region will be designed on the basis of economic integration with mainland India and complete segregation with Bangladesh.

The population of the NE is approximately 55,000,000. If the potential consumption of products that are manufactured in Bangladesh are valued at only $10/month per person than the market potential for Bangladesh is $6.5 billion annually. This market will be lost because of transit.

Anyways, I am not getting into any political garbage here. Just concerned as to what benefit Bangladesh would get out of this transit. Considering Indian goods have more commercial value in the entire region, how would Bangladeshi made products compete? It is also an issue of controlling the trade, which according to the author is more in India's favor.

How will you counter the author's key economic argument which I have quoted?

Thanks in advance :)

Great, another Indian member bites the dust

Indian posters are destined to bite the dust.

What's new?

Signior Antonio, many a time and oft
In the Rialto you have rated me
About my moneys and my usances:
Still have I borne it with a patient shrug,
For sufferance is the badge of all our tribe.
You call me misbeliever, cut-throat dog,
And spit upon my Jewish gaberdine,
And all for use of that which is mine own.
Well then, it now appears you need my help:
Go to, then; you come to me, and you say
'Shylock, we would have moneys:' you say so;
You, that did void your rheum upon my beard
And foot me as you spurn a stranger cur
Over your threshold: moneys is your suit
What should I say to you? Should I not say
'Hath a dog money? is it possible
A cur can lend three thousand ducats?' Or
Shall I bend low and in a bondman's key,
With bated breath and whispering humbleness, Say this;
'Fair sir, you spit on me on Wednesday last;
You spurn'd me such a day; another time
You call'd me dog; and for these courtesies
I'll lend you thus much moneys'?

Yeah, but there is just too many of these guys out there. As I write this post one is probably complting the Forum registration !!!

This is a Pakistani forum and not Bangladesh's.

So, if Pakistanis have no problem, what is your problem?

You are not their agent, are you?

Or are you merely an agent Agent provocateur?

. .
What stuff are you smoking COLONEL???

I smoke cigarettes LIEUTENANT.

The guy I was talking to got banned for some reason.

Anyways, other than displaying your childishness and mocking, you lot still haven't answered my questions on post #38. It was asked nicely.

Again, my question had NOTHING to do with politics.

Indian,

Zabanya is quite a rational person, so long as he has got out of his bed from the right side. :)

Haven't you seen the way he has replied that man Sami who is that 'I am better than you and damn the facts' type?

Of course, it does appear he was gleeful that one more Indian was down! But what of it?

Sufferance is the badge of all our tribe!

Chin up and shrug it off.

Zabanya,

I appreciate your even handed and fair posts (most of them).

One advice:

Stop smoking.

All type of smoke kills!
