Parts of India (now in present day Pakistan) have been under Muslim rule for a long time

For me Shivaji due to his battle tactics but no doubt Ranjit Singh was a mighty warrior also.

For the sake of knowledge, want to know how you see thousand year of muslims rule over Sub-continent. Also the entry of Mohammad Bin Qasim in Sind. (Addressing only Hindu or Hindu religion follower is not kinda religious profiling, just to get the point of view)(please no bashing)

What kind of "knowledge" are you trying to get?

It might sooth the ego of a few to say this was "Muslim" Rule and that the "Hindu" Marathas fought with the "Muslim Mughals".

The reality is that the average person Hindu or Muslim got hardly any benefit wether the King was Hindu or Muslim. While the Hindu Rajputs aligned with the Mughals. The Muslim Pathans and Punjabis (present day Pakistan) allied with the Sikhs initially to defeat the Mughals.

While in the south the Marathas took help of the migrated Pathan soldiers and former soldiers who left the Mughals. Out of the five corps that Shivaji had for example, one was led by a muslim General.

The last insult to the Mughals was eventually done by Nadir Shah of Persia when he came and sacked Delhi.

A more accurate description would be that Indian subcontinent from Central Asia to South Asia was very much like Europe. Its history saw a series of intercenine war and feuds and were all internal to the region. Just like attempts were made to unify Europe through war or otherwise by France and Germany, similar attempts were made by Guptas, Mughals and Mauryas. There were regional powers as well some of who like Cholas spread the influence Internationally. While others like the Marathas, Punjabis/Sikhs, Afghans e.t.c were able to become regional powers

It might suit some people's egos to talk about a mythical 1000 year Hindu Muslim clash of civilisations on the subcontinent but the reality is far from it. Ofcourse that will not stop from a section of Muslims and Hindus to not see that. They have a outlook that could best be described as two sides of the same coin.

You have to understand only time when Muslims ruled almost of the S. Asia was under the Mughals..

mughal.jpg

Right after it got to its peak, it crumbled under pressure from Marathas, Sikhs, etc..

When modern North west India and Pakistan was being invaded by Muslims, Empires like the Cholas wasnt being affected..

The first map about the Marathas doesn't seem accurate. The Marathas had allied with the Nizam of Hyderabad when resisting the Mughals.

At their height the Maratha empire which lasted around 30 years around this size looked like this

The Cholas empire started around 200BC and was all but finished by 1200AD. This was well before the Mughals and just at the beginning of the Delhi Sultanates. The map you have was at its peak around 1000AD.

Thats because Islam did not arrive with a invasion it came via trade to places like Gujarat

Islam came early to Gujarat, with immigrant communities of Arab trading communities settling on the western seacoast of India as early as the 8th Century A.D. They were later joinded by Persian traders. Many of these early merchants were Ismaili, both Mustaali and Nizari. They laid the foundation of the Bohra and Khoja communities.

This has always been the sad history of the subcontinent, we all get involved in our internal battles, Mighty empires get destroyed. And then some two bit outsider comes to steal and plunder :frown:

^^ Yes, and viewing the entry of Islam into India merely in a military or imperial context is also unnecessary and incredibly shortsighted. Islam came to India and brought with it refinements and innovations in language, arts, architecture, poetry, music, spiritualism and so much more. Today, there are probably about 550M muslims in the sub continent, growing fast, and that is the undying legacy of Islam in India. So, Islam cannot be thought of as the "other" in this context, Islam and muslims made India their own. They didn't treat it like the British East India Company did.

It was Hazrat Amir Khusro who said this verse in his marvelously beautiful Persian, "Gar firdaus azroo-e-zameenast, hamee'n-ast hamee'n-ast" (If paradise exists on earth, surely it is here, surely it is here)

Haha :-) But if a two bit outsider comes and bests the locals, does it make the locals half bit or one bit? :-)

Dara Shukoh, Shah Jahan's favorite and eldest son who was a Sufi:

Dara devoted much effort towards finding a common mystical language between Islam and Hinduism. Towards this goal he completed the translation of 50 Upanishads from its original Sanskrit into Persian in 1657 so it could be read by Muslim scholars[11]. His translation is often called Sirr-e-Akbar (The Greatest Mystery), where he states boldly, in the Introduction, his speculative hypothesis that the work referred to in the Qur'an as the "Kitab al-maknun" or the hidden book is none other than the Upanishads.
