To Be A Muslim In India This Eid

Despite being a BJP supporter I must admit the violence against Muslims particularly in relation to the beef issue has gone out of control recently. The beef vigilantes are soon going to emerge as a threat for Hindus as well whom they suspect to have eaten beef.

I am a bit dissapointed with the way BJP has handled this. I was hoping that Modi would be extra cautious not to allow such incidents considering the kind of allegations that were made against him earlier.

Communal violence was always there in India but it seems to have become more common lately. Almost every 3rd day there is some news. Has to stop if India is to succeed and reach the level of economic success we desire.

Btw, why are Pakistanis on this forum so concerned about India's internal matters ? 28 people were blown to bits in a terror attack there yesterday. I hardly find anyone here talking about it.

News was already in there ,even before the NDA rule .Noone cares about it at that time because it was secular rule of UPA.
Modi already rejected such acts but ultimately it is a state's matter not centres
And Pakistanis is really more concerned about India .They are looking to some others house even if theirs are in fire. You know people will only throw stone's to mango trees having mangoes.

I am just sorry and sad for them...I wish they realise their rights and stand for it otherwise the fanatic hindu will kill each one of them.

At least show some concerns to the family of 28 people that fragged out in your country yesterday.

NEW DELHI: Mohammad Akhlaq was dragged out of his tenement in Dadri by a mob of Gau Rakshaks and beaten to death for allegedly eating beef. His son barely survived and was in hospital for weeks. His wife and children were screaming with terror, unable to get help and unable to prevent the frenzied mob.

This Eid, Akhlaq's family, charged with consuming beef, have a long legal battle ahead of them. Terrified out of their wits this family has been running from pillar to post, not just for justice for Akhlaq, but for their own security. They have been threatened, abused despite the trauma, and now the impoverished family has been dragged to the courts on an alleged forensic laboratory report that claims that the meat, that the mob insisted was taken from their home, was indeed beef. This is after the first forensic reports of similar meat samples verified that it was not beef.

In Hyderabad, a senior BJP lawmaker T.Raja Singh threatened violence if oxen were sacrificed on Eid. He warned the Telangana government to ensure the ban was imposed strictly.

This, even as the poor briyani vendors in Mewat, Haryana, remained on the run fearing action as rumours spread that samples seized from their stalls had tested positive for “beef”. In this sleepy Haryana town, the police turned into cow vigilantes, swooped down on the impoverished vendors, and spread terror as the youth ran fearing indiscriminate arrests. In the midst of this a mob attacked a Muslim home in a Mewat village and raped the girls, including a 14 year old, and killed a couple by tying them and beating them to death.

In Muzaffarnagar, a large number of Muslims displaced in the 2013 communal violence that tore through the villages in what was a first for the area, remain in camps. These internally displaced persons have been unable to return to their vilages, as the attackers were neighbours, as were those who raped their women. Terrified, and still facing abuse, these families live in terrible conditions in these camps infested with snakes, and with no sanitation, electricity or even potable drinking water. For three years they have been living in inhuman conditions, with tears pouring down at the mention of the homes where they had lived for generations, but can no longer return to.

In Kairana, again a bustling town, local BJP leaders spread the rumour of Hindu migration as a result of which the minorities are now terrified, and scared of reprisal by mobs. The state government stepped in on this issue for a change, and hence it was prevented from reaching new levels of violence although locally the terror remains.

Overarching is Kashmir, India’s only Muslim majority state. The state is stepping up the offensive with the Army returning to villages and districts it had left over a decade and more ago. At the time of writing this, a senior retired government official from Kashmir called, very agitated, that the forces were going into homes in the rural areas and firing pellet guns inside at the families. People are being arrested, taken away in action reminiscent of the 1990’s when enforced disappearances had hit almost every Kashmiri home. This is now the apprehension amongst the elders of Kashmir, even as the young are bent on giving up their lives for what they perceive to be their rights.

Drones and helicopters fly over Kashmir on Eid day even as one writes. Strict curfew keeps people at home, with internet and communication services suspended.

New Delhi, in line with the approach of centralising its slogan of nationalism around the ‘anti-national’ Kashmiri (and now also the Muslims in other parts of India), has decided to force an offensive for as long as it takes. The visit of the All Party Parliamentary delegation has been dismissed by the government as an aberration, with the hard line continuing in Kashmir. More so as the state has been placed since Independence in the national security paradigm, and not in the space of democratic rights and justice. Kashmir, thus, allows the government to build its ‘nationalism’ constituency by juxtaposing the Kashmiris as a national security threat.

Muslims in India thus, today, are being effectively projected as the crux of the definition of anti-nationals and terrorists embodied in the persona of the Kashmiri:-

anti-Hindu for being beef eaters with the current campaign actually intended to make the Indian Muslim synonymous with beef, when exactly the opposite is true;

anti-India and pro-Pakistan (this applies to Kashmiris and all other Muslims as well);

And all on the verge of joining the Islamic State.

There is no counter narrative, given the political opposition’s collapse in the face of the right wing onslaught. The Muslims have no organisation, no leadership except of the Muslim Personal Law Board kind, diminishing political support, with rights and justice playing a poor second to vote bank politics. The isolation is nearing completion.

Welcome to Modified India!

Ohh come on! Every now and then articles like this come out written by some random guy, often from our neighbours, being so worried about the condition of muslims in India. They highlight the incidents like beef killings, how muslims had to face these, that blah blah in India and how good it would've been if they had chosen to be in some other 'islamic republics'.

What do these guys think? That rest of the world is made of saints? That the muslims in the so called Islamic republics are living a life thats is greatly better than Indian muslims?

Yes,my country had to witness several embarassing situations like the gujarat riots, beef lynchings etc. Incidents like these werent exclusive to islam, just like muslims had to suffer in the hands of fanatical hindus, every religion had been victims of the fanatical idiots of someother religion in India. For the size of India, its population, the variety of faiths it hosts, such incidents are merely a drop in the damn pacific ocean. To pick such incidents and to shed crocodile tears is an embarrasing thing to do.

They have conveniently forgotten millions of proud Indian muslims who happily enjoyed and celebrated eid,and the millions of their fellow Indians who happily were part of our celebrations.

You make a mass murderer your PM, who was banned to enter any Western countries for his role in massacre of minorities. His companions get all other powerful positions in the govt.

And you still questioning state sponsorship of fanatic hindus in India?

Just because everyone call him a mass murderer does not make him one. Modi was acquitted by the court so that's where it stands.

. .
These are the same people that have the audacity to lecture us about human rights.
The same people that boast about being a "world's biggest democracy" yet don't know jack about democratic principles
Now I don't care what they do with their citizens but when they try to act like champion of human rights these articles need to rub in their face.

Why is everyone calling him a mass murderer in the first place? Why didn't he stop the massacre in the first place?

Have you read the reply of @acetophenol ?

There is not a single court in India or outside or related to the UN that has found him to be as you call "a mass murderer". He doesn't become a mass murderer just because you say it. Your words and judgement count for Nothing. Zilch.
.

That exactly is the point.

99% of the time the so called "Indian courts" never find fanatic hindus guilty of anything.

Most of the time they are left with a slap on the wrist for worst crimes to minorities and are rewarded afterwards with higher govt positions.

Yes this is India!

. .
Have you and him read my question?

2002 India was not a US.So draw backs would have been in there .
Question is Is there any such riots does happened in India after that ?
Now that is offtopic.
@acetophenol is a Muslim.
He knows what he is saying and Muslims in India dont need the certificates of lunatics and foreigners to prove their patriotism

.
Agree with your latter point except for your reference to Gujarat.

It wasn't a genocide- 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus were killed.Genocide required much bigger numbers. Kind of like what Pakistan did in Bangladesh in 1971. If it was a genocide, it was a genocide for both Hindus and Muslims. Secondly, there is nothing to show that Modi was responsible. You can't say he was responsible just because he was the CM then. You can accuse him of incompetence but not complicity without any proof.
Without trying to go in to definition of "genocide" or taking the bait of involving Bangladesh (which have bee debated and discussed about already) are you saying that it was ok since these were just 790 Muslims and 254 Hindhu that were killed? Since it was just about a 1000 people killed under Modi's administration so well, what is the news in here!!

Come on. We both know MUCH better than that!

Plus you are wring about the numbers
Plus you are looking the other way when it comes about Modi's involvement.

Why is everyone calling him a mass murderer in the first place? Why didn't he stop the massacre in the first place?

Firstly, not everyone is calling Modi a mass murderer. Modi was and is not the absolute King or the sole powerholder responsible for everything happening now in India, or that happened back in India. In a country that tight packed with different faiths, often with conflicting ideologies along with a fair sized bunch of morons, sparks are sure to fly. Its unfair to blame an individual for that. It would be akin to branding Pakistan a terrorist country or calling all muslims terrorists. If Modi is individually and directly responsible for the crimes, it would have already been proven beyond doubt. BJP is not an absolute autocratic power in India, they are light years away from it. They've got powerful and strong political rivals, and Indian media is capable of making an ocean out of a drop. Even if some concrete proof arises in the future, you can be sure that he will be punished.

And about the "Champion of Human Rights" part. yes, India is indeed a champion of human rights. Numerous occasions that we stood up for human rights will speak for it. And the "World's biggest democracy". part. Again, we have every right to call ourselves so. We never had a some random guy topple the will of the masses and walk away like that.

I myself and my fellow Indians here like @SrNair are kinda used to articles like these. They and the concerns raised by members like you are not because of the genuine concerns that you have towards Indians muslims, but they are simply a tool to ridicule belittle India.

They can be concerned and post as MUCH as they want on it, it is THEIR forum and NOT yours.
You try to repeat some snide remark like that and you will find yourself excused permanently from both Indian and Pakistani matters for a while.
