Tipu Sultan a symbol of communal harmony,’ says Rahul Gandhi

Let me prove you wrong on that too.

There was nothing valorous about Tipu Sultan, he pawned away his sons in a treaty with the British so that he could continue to hold on to his kingdom.

Can you show me a single instance of a Hindu Maratha do that ? They would rather die, than agree to such terms. Now THAT is valorous.

Your are confusing tipus hate for the british for "valour". Tipu had equal hate for the hindus and christians too. That just make him a hateful and spiteful psychopath, not a brave leader.

By that same logic, why don't your admire and appreciate Hitlers valor he displayed against the poles, and russsians and Germans and Americans and the French, when they ALL ganged up to defeat him.

Such selective cherry picking is the forte of the communist and islamic historians, do not expect me to buy into such convenient narratives.
Since historical revisionism seem to be the favourite pastime of your brigade let me take this opportunity to debunk few myths. Tipu's family was taken as hostage by the British after his defeat when the puppet Wodeyars were installed once again in their place.

His sons were were again in the forefront during another instance of anti imperial struggle against the British in the Vellore Mutiny which was in many ways the precursor to the eventual Indian Rebellion of 1857.

Cherry picking, much?

.
This is what caused the Vellore Mutineers to rebel against the british and to legitimize their fight, and add weight to it, they hoisted the flag of the Mysore Sultanate and declared Tipu's son as king.
Because they considered the British as foreigners and invaders, and the descendants of Tipu Sultan and Zafar as their very own. Even when not playing an active role(though Tipu's family was definitely involved) in their respective mutinies those figures became the torch bearers and and a rallying point in people's fight against British imperialism. Something that the sycophant chaddi brigade will find very difficult to comprehend.

The mutineers did that because they had no one else to turn too. The Nizam and Wadiyar were allies with the british, so the Mysore sultanate was the only flag they could raise.

Besides the muslim mutineer would never raise a flag to a Hindu kingdom, its always been hindus who were foolishly "secular" enough to support the flag of a muslim kingdom, even though it had brought incredible depredation in its path.

Crediting tipu's sons for this is equivalent to the presstitute media crediting rahul gandhi for any BJP defeat in any bypoll election. Only a desperate jihadi starved for genuine heroes will turn to such men of straw and praise them for "leadership".

Even today, the opposition needs someone to rally around, and that will inevitably be Sonia gandhi. It has nothing to do with his non existent "leadership", he is a symbol of the CONgress dynasty and CONgress rule. She is a foreigner who has not yet learn to speak Hindi or ANY other Indian language.

Ever wonder why the opposition parties do not rally around Manmohan singh ? Even though he was PM and is eminently more qualified than pappu by any parameter ?

For me he was just another South Indian who got his backside handed to him by the British. Pakistanis give undue importance to him.

Asalamu Alaikum

He was a powerful Muslim ruler who died like fighting like a tiger.

He is without a doubt a character we should respect greatly.

Tipu Sultan can be claimed by all South Asians, whether Muslim or otherwise. He was an internationalist. A unique person.

And had he succeeded in his collaboration with Napoleon Bonaparte, the Britishers would have exited from South Asia sooner.

A good find.

Hitler too can be claimed by all south Asians, christians or otherwise. He too was an internationalist.

Had he succeeded in his collaboration with Subash chandra bose, the british would have exited from India earlier.

Yours is a proper troll post.

If you watched the vid posted by @My-Analogous , you will understand that his war campaigns were more a king's campaign than some Hitler-like massacres.

And how was Hitler an Internationalist?? He was more an expansion minded zealot.

LOL... you are wrong. Zero troll, ALL facts.

They were Exactly the same.

Hitler personal physician was a Jew, Dr. Theodor Morell, but he had no qualms about the massacre of jews. Hitler hated the Jews and blacks.

Tipu's advisor was a Brahmin, but he had no qualms about massacre of bramins and forcibly converting them. Tipu hated the christians and hindus.

.
Tipu's advisor was a Brahmin

Pandit Purnaiya??

but he had no qualms about massacre of bramins and forcibly converting them.

Then how about the incident given in the OP :
Diwakar said Rahul had asked on Tipu’s connection with the mutt. “I told him about a letter Tipu had written to the then seer of the mutt and the donations the ruler had made.

There are other such instances too.

Tipu hated the christians and hindus.

Then how come he was collaborating with Napoleon??

All I can say is he was a complex figure.

.
Pandit Purnaiya??

Then how about the incident given in the OP :

That is the irony.

Tipu was a coward how wanted some reassurance about his fate, so he believed in Hindu astrology and had Hindu astrologers who made predictions for him. These astrologers were affiliated with the sringeri mutt and THAT is why he offered money to the mutt.

There are other such instances too.

NOPE, not a single one other than this.

Then how come he was collaborating with Napoleon??

Enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Hitler collaborated with Communist Russia too.

There is nothing "complex" about tipu, on the contrary he was a simpleton, unlike his father who was uneducated by Smart.

.
That is the irony.

Tipu was a coward

Yeah, a coward who was attacked by three full armies ( one of them the Muslim Nizam of Hyderabad ), plus I believe elements of the Nairs and the Kodavas.

NOPE, not a single one other than this.

Found this :
What Tipu was doing was an old template of power politics in the region. For example, he demolished the Varaha Temple, which employed the boar symbol of the Mysore dynasty that he had replaced. But he also let other temples in his kingdom remain unmolested. In fact, like with Sringeri, Tipu patronised a number of powerful Hindu temples. He donated silver vessels to the Sri Ranganatha temple in his capital and even ordered the installation of a jade linga, Shiva idol at the Nanjundeshwara temple at Nanjangud.

It goes on :
Hindu and Christian communities were targeted by Tipu but, as historian Kate Brittlebank points out, “this was not a religious policy but one of chastisement”. The communities he targeted were seen as disloyal to the Mysore state. Tipu also, in fact, acted against Muslim communities such as the Mahdevis, who would support the British and find employment as horsemen in the East India Company’s armies. Even as Tipu attacked Hindus and Christians from outside Mysore, as Susan Bayly says, he “was careful to foster close ritual and political relations with Hindus and even Christians with his own domain, provided these groups posed no threat to this authority”

A dishonorable man who was hated by pretty much everybody. Nair's and kodava never took the battle outside kerala, the only time tipu attacked them, he lost his sword in the battle and that is the beginning of the end for him.

Found this :
It goes on :

1. Lies, since the symbol of the Mysore Kingdom was the Gandaberunda, the two headed bird. Varaha was the symbol of the Vijaynagar empire which was destroyed more than century ago.

3.JPG

2. Tipus astrologers predicted that he could become an emperor if he performed some rituals. So he did, in Sree Ranganatha Swami Temple and made that donation.

3. The Hindu priest Srikanteshwara swamy of the famous temple in Nanjangud, in Mysuru district was also a noted ayurvedic expert. He was also a physician to Tipu. Tipu called him “Hakim Nanjunda".

Tipu Sultan’s royal elephant which suffered from eye problems had lost its eye sight. Tipu was told about the glory of Srikanteshwara at Nanjangud temple that one’s wishes would be fulfilled if one offered prayers to the lord with all devotion. He was advised by the priests of the temple, to bathe the elephant in River Kapila and wipe its eyes with the river water used for the abhishekam of Lord Srikanteshwara for one mandala that is 48 days. To his surprise, the elephant regained its sight.

That is how he donated that shiv ling.

4. Tipu was a VERY superstitious man. He always conducted religious rituals and wore apotropaic objects and trinkets—Hindu as well as Islamic—either to avert a disaster or to attain success in his undertakings. He placed great emphasis on his dreams and has a book written that details his dreams. :P

Tipu even sported a gold ring etched with the name of the Hindu God Rama—a gift from the Guru of the Sringeri Math. But he had no qualms about destroying the Harihareswara temple at Harihar, the Varahaswami temple at Srirangapatnam, and the Odakaraya temple at Hospet.

Tipu Sultan’s ceremonial sword bears an unabashed admission inscribed on it: “My victorious sabre is lightning for the destruction of the unbelievers.”

But at the same time, before his final war with the british, He ordered for all the ceremonies prescribed by the Brahmins to be duly performed, and having given them presents, requested their prayers for the prosperity of his government. He also ordered to be slaughtered two elephants with all their golden trappings, and he then had large sums of gold mohurs distributed among the beggars.

His hate for non musilms was such that he even threw out Ahmadeias from his kingdom.

. . .
Agreed...
but on the other hand he was one of the biggest tyrant south Asia ever had...

Not really, there have been far worse ones for your people, e.g Ghaznavi and Ghor.

However, in my opinion, this is a very subjective topic. Muslims will say that non Muslim empires in the region post-Ummayad invasions were terrible, and non Muslims will say the Muslim empires were terrible.
