Tibetans in India..... did china forgot them?

There was no question of an independent Kashmir, it was just a dream of the raja. At the end of the day he would have to choose between India or Pakistan. Being a Hindu it was obvious which country he would choose hence Pakistans reaction. However we are derailing the topic now so im outta here.

Read the Independence of India Act which was signed with the British Empire by the new dominions of India and pakistan - pakistan reneged on its word. Yes, this is complete derailment - let's stick to the topic at hand.

EP resolution asks China to respect Tibetan language

Dharamsala, November 26 – Reacting to the recent uproar in Tibet’s Qinghai province over replacement of Tibetan language by Chinese language as medium of instruction in Tibetan schools the European Parliament on Thursday has urged the Chinese government to support “a genuine bilingual language policy, in which all subjects can be taught in the Tibetan language.”

The European Parliament currently in session in French city of Strasbourg passed a resolution calling on the Chinese leadership to respect the native language of the Tibetan people. The Members of European Parliament (MEPs) condemned the Chinese authorities’ plan to make Chinese the main language of instruction in Tibet. The resolution condemned the “increased crackdown on the exercise of cultural, linguistic, religious and other fundamental freedoms" of the six million Tibetan people.

The European Parliament also said it deplores the “often discriminatory” treatment of ethnic and religious minorities in China and asked the European Commission to report on how a grant of €1 million to China in 2009 to support Tibetan civil society was spent.

The European Parliament also passed a resolution to welcome the recent release of Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. However, it expressed concerns about her safety and insisted that her freshly regained freedom must be unconditional and without restriction. It also urged the Burmese regime to engage in discussions with her and representative of the minority peoples.

The MEPs also welcomed the EP’s decision to send a Parliamentary delegation to Burma to hand Aung San Suu Kyi the Sakharov Prize she won in 1990, if she is unable to attend the official Sakharov ceremony in Strasbourg in December.

Dalai Lama says Chinese more concerned about successor than him

The Dalai Lama today said that the issue of his successor was not a "serious question" for him and that "it is more a concern of the Chinese".

"That is not a serious question for me. It looks like the Chinese government are seriously looking. I made it very clear in 1961 that whether the institution of Dalai Lama should continue or not should be debated," the 76-year-old Buddhist spiritual head, who described himself as a "son of India",said.

The Dalai Lama said that in case majority of the people among the Buddhist feel that the institution (of Dalai Lama) is not relevant, then it will cease to exist.

"It is not much important for Tibetan Buddhist culture or people. It is quite silly to think that this should continue. It depends on the circumstances. But as far as Tibetan struggle is concerned, we have a politically elected leadership," he said at the HT Leadership Summit.

"It (the issue of succession) is more a concern of the Chinese than me," he said on the issue of succession.

Observing that the 20th century was "the century of violence", he said, the 21st century should be of dialogue.

"Any conflict cannot be solved by violence. The 20th century was the century of violence...according to some historians, over 200 million people were killed. This immense violence including nuclear weapons failed to bring any permanent peace to the world, so it was (a) waste."

He said that as far as spirituality is concerned, various branches of Buddhism have many young leaders who are inclined and can emerge as good spiritual leaders.

The Tibetan spiritual head said he was an "ancient messenger of India. Wherever I go, I talk about ahimsa or non-violence. This is the only country on planet where besides the home-grown religion, all religions co-exist. Occasionally there are some problems.

"I am a messenger of ancient India and son of India. A major portion of my life I have lived in India after escaping from Tibet. For the last 51 years, this body survived on Indian dals and rice," he quipped.

Asking Indians to realise their traditional values, he said, issues like cast and dowry must be addressed very seriously.

"Political problems like naxalism and Maoist movements also nee to be addressed. There is a lot of suffering in that area," he said, adding within the country, some traditions must change as they are outdated.

"There are problems in the country, you need to do some good work and not just nice words," he said.

"We consider Indians as our guru. Indians are guru and Tibetans are chela (followers). We are quite reliable chelas (followers)," he said.

The Dalai Lama said, "Our generation created that century of bloodshed, so it is now our responsibility to tell our children that violence cannot solve the problems".

He observed that a busy life and a competitive world were leading to greater mental stress level.

"In India or any other country, this stress level is more stronger in big cities like in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata... whereas in rural areas farmers, there may be physical difficulties more often but mentally much lesser stress life," he said.

"If you develop certain right kind of attitude... realistic attitude that doesn't matter what kind of surroundings, but one can keep peace of mind. So peace of mind is the basis of sound body and healthy mind, the Dalai Lama said.

"So much anger, so much fear so much attachment so much emotions...that part will not function smoothly...," he added.

Everyone can keep their "local" dialect for everyday use. The "official dialect" however is Mandarin.

Anyway, it doesn't stop people speaking Cantonese, Shanghainese etc. in their daily lives.

Plus t would just too difficult to enact an education system different from that of the rest of China. I'd also point out that before China, there was no education system for poor Tibetans.

I was wondering what would be the situation in India if we adopt same system with hindi as compulsory medium in education....:what:
at least 12 states out of 28 will revolt against union government

Well the school systems in America and Britain have compulsory "English language" education.

People can still use their own languages in their daily lives.

Tibetan exiles camp in Delhi to protest Chinese premier's visit

As India gets ready to welcome Chinese premier Wen Jia Bao, streets at Macleodganj - known as Little Lhasa wears a deserted look - Tibetan exiles have left for Delhi to protest against the visiting dignitary. The leading Tibetan NGOs that have been at the forefront of "anti- campaign" ahead of
Beijing Olympics in 2008 are pitting in New Delhi, even as they remain wary to disclose their plans to protest Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visit. Anti protests at that time, had scattered all around leading to violence. Tibetan government in exile had claimed that more than 300 persons had died in protest across administered, while Chinese official confirmed only 19 deaths.

Tibetan Youth Congress, the largest of Tibetan NGO stands for Independence of Tibet have planned three- day sit in protest at Jantar Mantar to draw the attention towards half -a- century old unresolved Tibetan Issue. Chinas claims Tibet's as its integral part while the Tibet's exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama seeks more "autonomy" for his homeland - Tibet. China has been rejecting Dalai Lama's demand for "autonomy" calling it as "independence in guise". The nine rounds of dialogue between Dalai Lama's representative and Chinese officials have remained inconclusive.

Other Tibetan support groups including organization of political prisoners - Gu-Chu- Sum, Tibetan Woman Association (TWA), Student for Free Tibet (SFT) and National Democratic Party of Tibet (NDPT) would organise conference at Delhi with Indian intellectuals writers and Political leaders. The four NGO had called a march in 2008, which was called off after the Dalai Lama's intervention. Though the Tibetan exiles have kept their plans under wraps but protest would apparently be a low -profile since had been has been asking to tread with caution on the Tibetan Issue.

Tibet's exiled spiritual and temporal head the Dalai Lama who escaped to in 1959 with hordes of Tibetans is away on ten-day tour to and West Bengal. Dalai Lama is expected to participate in series of programs being hosted by Sikkim government. Dalai Lama is visiting on an invite by chief minister Pawan Chamling.

Tibetans exiles have plans to submit memorandum to the embassies of various government to highlight the issue of "Human Rights violation. But it is likely that the visit could also see high profile protest from Individuals. "Yes there would be protest, this time too" Tibetan poet and freedom activist Tenzing Tsundue told Hindustan Times from Delhi. Tsundue, in 2002 climbed the scaffolding of the Mumbai building where Chinese premier Zhu Rongji was staying during his state visit. Tsundue carried a banner that read "Free Tibet", while he was frisked away by police.

Tsundue repeated the performance in 2005 when Chinese premier Wen Jiabao was addressing a conference at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, standing on the balcony of the 200ft-high tower with a red banner that read "Free Tibet". At that time Tibetan activist had hidden himself in the balcony overnight-and stayed there without food or water-because it would have been difficult to get past security on the day of the official visit.

There more than 10,000 Tibetans living in Dharamsala, which is the headquarters of Tibetan government in exile since in 1959 after Dalai Lama settled down here.

Indian, Tibetan students protest ahead of Wen's visit

New Delhi, December 14 – A group of young Indian and Tibetan students here are calling on the Indian government to publicly press Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to bring an end to China’s 50-year occupation of Tibet and to resolve the 40-year Indo-Tibetan border dispute.

A day ahead of Premiere Wen Jiabao’s visit to the Indian capital Tibetan and Indian students unfurled a banner that read, “Tibet’s Independence: India’s Security” at Rajghat, the memorial of India’s father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi.

“The Chinese government's illegal infiltration into sovereign Indian territory will not end until Tibet once again takes its place amongst free and independent nations,” said Rigzin Spalgon, a Ladakhi student and Delhi Coordinator of Students for a Free Tibet. “As a Ladakhi, I am aware of the arrogance of China’s leadership when it comes to the border issue and I call on all those who believe in India’s independence to support the Tibetan people in their just struggle. A free and independent Tibet only will ensure lasting peace and stability for people living along the Indo-Tibetan border."

“Our action here today sends a clear message to Wen Jiabao that the youth of this nation will not tolerate China’s blatant attempt to colonize parts of India, nor will we remain silent while China continues to brutally suppress the Tibetan people,” said Shibayan Raha, Grassroots Director of Students for a Free Tibet – India. “The Indian people wholeheartedly support the Tibetan people’s nonviolent struggle for freedom. We call for a long overdue shift in India’s policy on Tibet recognizing the Tibetan people’s right to independence – a position that will also strengthen India’s position in border negotiations with China.”

The New York based group claims there is a growing chorus of Indian students across the country calling on their Government to recognize Tibet as a key factor in resolving its territorial dispute with China.

The group lauded India for sending its Ambassador to Norway to the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo on December 10 and urged the Indian leadership to press China to release the jailed Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo.

Tibetans and supporters will carry out protests around the Indian capital during the Chinese premiere’s three-day visit beginning tomorrow. Tibetan groups like the Tibetan Youth Congress, Tibetan Women’s Association, GuChuSum ex political prisoners’ movement, National Democratic Party of Tibet and SFT will also spearhead protest demonstrations in various parts of the city in the next three days.

The Tibetan Youth Congress which does not agree with the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile’s position of seeking genuine autonomy within China carried out a protest yesterday at the Indian capital’s landmark India Gate. The activists of the group headed by its president Tsewang Rinzin unfurled a banner that read, “Free Tibet Wen - Free Tibet Now”.

Activists including students of the Delhi University will begin protest March today from Rajghat, the memorial of India’s father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, to Jantar Mantar in the heart of the Indian Capital.

While lauding India for its position on the conferment of Nobel Peace Prize to jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiabo, the TYC warned India against falling prey to the charm offensive label and “reformist” image of China which it said will sign yet another agreement “they will not uphold and a friendship they don’t respect.”

“China’s multiple faces and contradictions surface yet again, when on the one hand it says established borders and control of Tibet should not be challenged while on the other hand they come to India to address exactly that question,” said a press statement issued by the group.

The TYC said if China has come to talk about border issues, chiefly territory illegally occupied by his country the issue at stake then is not Arunachal Pradesh or Aksai Chin but Tibet.

“The issue at stake is Tibet and the problem that needs addressing is the continued violation of Tibet’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The stability and security in this region rests solely on the issue of independence for Tibet,” said the statement. The group said India should not allow China to dictate its terms on it.

didnt knew that "Tibetan Youth Congress" do not agree with dalai lama :what:

1. why china dont except tibetans(in exile) as its citizens?

Any citizen of any country supporting insurgency and break up of own country is not acceptable.

2. there are news china is exploiting tibetan natural resources without giving share to locals... Is it true?

India is exploiting Kashmiri resources without giving share to locals.

You dont have right to question

3. why tibetans in india do not want to go back to their motherland?

4. why tibetans continuously protest against china outside china ?

Because no one in China is ready to support their designs against China.

5. although they are not creating any problem for india but how long they are to stay in india... when its already more than half century they staying here?

Its up to india when it will give up supporting illegal government in exile from other countries.

6. every year thousands of tibetans come to India illegally.... Are they having some problem in tibet.?

Why they only go to India in the first place ????? Any specific reason ? BTW what is the exact number of Tibetans in India?

7. Dalai Lama had already said he want to return Tibet why China dont give him chance?

Because according to Dalai lama recently he is an INDIAN so why China take an Indian citizen that too for fomenting against China.

8. Why they are forced to run a govt. in exile which absolutely have no power... and its annual budget is made by the charity given by tibetans all around the world?

Any govt in exile anywhere in the world is considered illegal sans any power. its just wishful thinking to consider such one as a government.

Because according to Dalai lama recently he is an INDIAN so why China take an Indian citizen that too for fomenting against China.

If china also thinks that Dalai lama is Indian than they should hand over Tibet to India because DL is the leader of Tibetans. And Tibet belonged to him and his fellow countrymen.
