Thousands of protests in Muslim-majority Malaysia have gathered outside the US embassy to rally against Donald Trump's move to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Thousands of protesters in Muslim-majority Malaysia demonstrated Friday outside the US embassy over President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, denouncing it as a "slap in the face" for Muslims worldwide.

Some 5,000 demonstrators marched on the Kuala Lumpur mission after the main weekly Muslim prayers in a nearby mosque, chanting and waving banners that read "Hands off Jerusalem" and "Down USA President Trump".

Mr Trump's announcement has been met by an almost universal diplomatic backlash, sparked Palestinian protests, sporadic clashes with Israeli security forces and a call for a new intifada from Hamas's leader.

The status of Jerusalem is deeply sensitive for Muslims and protesters have started taking to the streets in cities across the world following the policy shift.

The protesters in Kuala Lumpur were led by Khairy Jamaluddin, the sports minister and head of ruling party UMNO's youth wing, who accused Mr Trump of having made "an illegal announcement".

"What you did is against international law - Muslims cannot accept your action," he said in a speech to the crowd during the hour-long protest," Mr Jamaluddin said.

Mohamad Rasul, a 51-year-old train driver taking part in the demonstration, described Trump's move as "a slap in the face" for Muslims.

"This insensitive action will inflame the hearts of Muslims worldwide," Mr Rasul said.

Police said 5,000 demonstrators took part. The protest was peaceful bar some pushing between protesters and security officials.

The only solution to this is end of Israel until Israel exists this issue can't be resolved. Jerusalem is ours and we have to take it back at all costs

USA thinks Muslims will not unite but giving up Jerusalem is giving up the roots of Islam. They are idots, if 2 Muslims are fighting to death and some come to take their religion they will both unite and finish him and then deal with each other later. If you don't think that Pakistan has ICBM then you are wrong. Pakistan has ICBM and better than any in the world. Pakistan has no need to test them until now. Israel has always been part of our military doctrine but Pakistan never reveals it openly. The biggest indication to this is the miniaturization of Nuclear war heads. You only miniaturize Nuclear war heads if you plan to go for ICBM you don't need them for IRBM or SRBM. It is a common concept that you develop ICBM first and then miniaturize warheads because miniaturizing warhead is a more difficult mark to achieve than ICBM. It will depend on Israel or any distant nations actions that will make Pakistan announce the test.
