MQM being the major political party since last 20 years or so in Karachi share responsibility for every good or bad thing happened in the city. They ruled Karachi since 1990s so whatever is happening in Karachi is either due to partly their incompetence or themselves being part of the whole game.

Whole of Karachi can be blamed on All political parties and their militant wings not just MQM.

. . .
MQM has nothing to do with lyari

these fightings are among the lyari gangsters who even though get political support from PPP but they have their own drug business, their gangs and their own mafia

PMLN was trying to contact these gangsters to get foot hold in karachi

Are you supporting PMLN?

waah waah

do you even know the basic thing?

how is MQM responsible for anything which goes wrong in karachi?

do they have the authority of police? do they have the authority of rangers? MQM gets elected from Karachi but the irony is even after getting the city of 18 million the city is run by PPP

sorry my friend you either need to give authority to the MQM or you need to keep blaming this carp away from MQM and cry to the concerned authorities OK?

since 1990 MQM didnt have its own authority, the police and army operation werent done to MQM because MQM was the authority, you need to get your facts straight here

The Lyari situation is not as bad as being portrayed and life will be back to normal in just a few days, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said while talking to the media on Saturday. PHOTO: AYESHA MIR/THE EXPRESS TRIBUNE

KARACHI: Despite the committees formed by the federal government on directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and a committee made by Sindh government, Lyari remained tense on Saturday as more than 100 families moved out of their homes to rural areas.

Two members of the Kutchi community were kidnapped on Saturday while two men were killed at the Hingorabad Road on Friday evening.

The federal team was briefed on the law and order situation in Lyari, including the issue of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking shelter in Badin, Thatta and others areas, and the deployment of law enforcement agencies. The meeting was attended by high officials, including Intelligence Bureau Director-General Aftab Sultan, Sindh Chief Secretary Muhammad Ejaz Chaudhry, Rangers DG Major General Rizwan Akhtar and Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui.

Chaudhry told The Express Tribune that during the meeting, the Sindh government was asked if it needed any assistance from the federal government to maintain law and order in the city, particularly in Lyari.

“We are already trying to deploy more forces in the tense areas,” he said, clarifying that no major developments took place during the meeting. When asked about the rehabilitation of IDPs, he said that the provincial government was providing all the basic necessities to them. “Some of the IDPs, however, rejected the government’s help.”

Sources told The Express Tribune that the team, which included top officials from Islamabad, visited different parts of Lyari late Saturday night. Security was also beefed up in the already sensitive areas of Lyari by deploying more Rangers and police ahead of the visit of the officials.

The IDPs staying at the Shah Gurio shrine, however, complained that the district government was providing them only one meal a day. “We are in a miserable state and appeal to the government to maintain law and order in Lyari and rehabilitate us,” said Dawood Kutchi.

‘Lyari’ situation is exaggerated’

The Lyari situation is not as bad as being portrayed and life will be back to normal in just a few days, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said while talking to the media on Saturday.

He has directed officials to establish police posts to deal with criminal elements in Lyari. A committee has been formed, which also includes two federal representatives sent by the prime minister, to deal with Lyari’s migration issue, he added.

At least 200 more families have left Lyari due to the deteriorating law and order situation. PHOTO: NNI/FILE

KARACHI: At least 200 more families have left Lyari for safer lands despite claims by
the provincial and federal government that peace will be maintained in the volatile neighbourhood.

Four buses packed with women and children left the community centres on Jumah Baloch Road, Agra Taj, for rural parts of the province on Sunday afternoon and the community fears that the entire locality will be empty within the next few days. “There were around 1,000 Rahimoon families living in the area but a majority of them have left,” said Abdul Aziz Rahimoon. “Those left behind plan to go soon too but I have been trying to stop them from leaving the area.”

The members of the Kutchi community were very critical of government’s performance in maintaining law and order and said that nothing concrete has been done so far. “A few policemen patrol the Shah Abdul Latif Road but they avoid the areas where armed men roam freely,” said Abdul Latif, a resident.

The residents also vented their anger at the government for failing to provide for the families lodged in the Jamaat Khanas for the last two weeks. “How can you expect them to set up camps for us in the rural areas when they didn’t do anything for us in the provincial capital,” said Qasim Hingoro, adding that despite being aware of the miserable condition of those displaced, they want to move too.

“Our brothers and sisters are in pathetic condition but our strength as a community lies in sharing our happiness as well as our hardships,” said Rahimoon.

The Express Tribune also learnt that dozens of families will leave five more Jamaat Khanas in the next few days as, according to them, fear reigns supreme in their area. “Our kids are scared of the silence,” said Sakina Bibi of Mandra Mohalla. “My two sisters and brother have moved to Badin along with their families and I want to join them too.”

The residents unanimously demanded a concerted effort from the law enforcement agencies in rooting out criminal elements who want to keep the area destabilised. “With all the people leaving, this area is another Mewa Shah graveyard in the making,” said a visibly concerned resident.

Lyari

KARACHI: Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and Women Action Forum’s (WAF) activists urged the government to immediately arrest criminals active in Lyari at a press conference on Friday.

The participants, including Kausar S Khan, Nuzhat Qidwai and Uzma Noorani, expressed their support for female victims in Lyari at the press conference. They said that criminals forced women to leave their houses, while law enforcers were busy using abusive language towards women and children in the area.

The activists demanded that honest police officers be assigned to Mundra Mohalla and Hingorabad where inhabitants were forced to abandon their ancestral homes. The activists said that all displaced families must also be assisted in returning homes.

The female victims, present at the press conference, complained that as many as eight attacks in a day have been experienced by them.
