Things I miss about Pakistan in the US

.
Ehsaan Faraamosh! Ghaddaar!

Lets see.. I was not able to afford a good car in Pakistan, I was not able to find a job where work ethics are reflective of honesty and need to improve, and even though a cartoon contest was held a few hundred miles away for my beloved prophet.. I get more respect here from the common man on my ancestry and religious beliefs than I ever did back in Pakistan. The funny thing is, I am neither of the common hated religious sects either.
More so, I get a better audience from even those who hold misconceptions and hatred for my religion than those of my religion back home(or here too).

So , really.. I do miss the weather at times and the sights I have seen back home. But I have no love for its inhabitants unless you refer to houbara bustards.

Good to know, not your thread then!
Sorry, I am in a free country and not where people are mutilated for saying that dont agree.

No one manages to mutilate anyone over the net no matter how advanced their nation is

You can disagree but doesnt mean you need to be mean and harsh author is a female she is also from the same free country and she is using the same free rights to talk about her experience...Something you are immune to :D

Touché, but those experiences of missing ones country I can stll comment on. And since they all involve food, that is never confined to the country. Hence, the author really does not miss the country and only the food. Which brings us to the question that is there really anything else worth remembering in Pakistan besides its cuisine which in itself is a mixture of Indian and Afghan/Persian cuisine?

Does it say I miss being among the non-existent lines at government offices?
Or they miss the mad traffic and utter lack of respect for signals?
Do they miss the polluted air of Karachi or being able to bathe downstream from urinating bovine creatures in the BRB canal?
Do they miss the beautiful valleys of Swat where if you wore anything less than a heavy covering or Burke you might be the target of an angry mob?
Or do they say they miss the greenery of Islamabad where you end up waiting 30 minutes in traffic because the Chief Minister is coming?

Nope, Just miss the food. Well, that you can get all over America now. From Gol Gappas, Murgh Chole, Parathe, Sheermal, Naan, Tikkas, Nehari, Qorma, Daal. you name it. Its all there.

Interesting enough if it is a mixture...it seems to have out competed all three of which you claim it is born from....

I was living with a Persian family in UK not British born just a PhD student fresh from Iran with his family. Their food was blant...but that was because the brother (husband) couldnt eat spices they didnt suit with his stomach while the sister (MASHALLAH beautiful lady) was in love with our food coz of the spices hmmmm....

I have never tried real Afghani cuisine...

So do you mean to tell me that before Persian invaded Pakistan we ate grass? :o: and didnt have our own style of cooking? And that Sindhi, Baloch, Pushtoon as well as Punjabi cooking each being different is proof enough we didnt have just 1 ancestor (at least our food didnt)

Now as for the latter part of your claim: The 1st line (not sure how you missed it) says

I miss the rain, singing in the rain, mitti ki khushboo in the rain. Apparently, American soil doesn’t get all fragrant for some very non-filmi reason

Another thing she did miss:

The corner shop culture:

paan ki dukaan or mithai ki dukaan or konay ki dukaan

So much negativity at such a young age.... :tsk:

Do you think there is no traffic jam/ violations in America?

Is there no pollution in America?

Valleys of Swat are beautiful nothing in America can compete to that...As for the Burka ....my friends have been to Swat in "western" clothes and she was never attacked by any angry mob....

You can get it in London too....but I guess you are too young to miss plus the lady adds :

Besides, it is okay to miss Pakistan some, is it not? It is okay to be nostalgic.

Well, maybe I might get positive like you are in the late 50s but so far there is nothing positive to remember from Pakistan.
To try and say Swat is incomparable.. clearly you have not seen Montana.
Yes, London has it all too and so has any place where Pakistanis go.

As for the food, before Persians invaded there was much less talk of Tikka and Kebabs.

I am not in my 50s....I just dont believe any negative shit is gonna do any good to my country!

Both look pretty.....

And you think Englishman incorporated himself with the local cultures? We all know about Aborigines, American Indians, Inca and many such tolerant touches of the Englishman :tsk:

What did they eat?

  • What did people eat?
Archaeologists can tell what Indus Valley people ate by examining the teeth and bones of skeletons they discover. They also examine rubbish pits for animal bones, seafood shells, fruit seeds and other food remains for clues to their diet.

Indus people kept cattle, pigs, sheep and goats for food. Cows provided milk and meat. Farmers grew fruit such as dates, grapes and melons, and field crops such as wheat and peas.

Indus Valley people ate a healthy diet. Most people probably ate more fruit and vegetables than meat. From the evidence of teeth in skeletons, it seems men were better-fed than women. Most people's teeth were healthy too.

Don't you love it when the majority of those passionately declaring Pakistan to be the best or top in anything quite often have no idea just how awesomely beautiful Allah created the rest of the world too and equally good people who can cook too. :)

Oh, another thing, guess where raw sewage is not dumped into the streams and where you can travel day or night freely with assistance available 24/7? :D

Edit: Back to the topic, food preparation under hygienic conditions is another area that gets overlooked when being overly sentimental and/or nostalgic. May be that is where the "special" taste comes from? :D

I have been there. and the pic above posted is processed with colours. Yes swat is beautiful but it is just another hilly terrain with very less facilities.

That special taste however is something I missed. Honestly Desi food tastes like paper here.

However, some of it tastes good but that involves handing it over to blue collar chicanos to make. They know tikkas like nobody's business.

To be fair, the roads have been improved quite a lot, and now there are some half-decent places to stay in Swat, so its tourism potential is improving with better facilities.
