Tokyo and Seoul seem expensive, unless you have a 7 or 8 figure paycheck. Also, time zone and language challenges. My destination for 'digital nomad' life would be London (or any city in U.K. or Ireland). Neutral time zone, no language barrier, though expensive.

Vietnam and Malaysia are nice places. Seoul and Tokyo are just too expensive and you will face the langauge barrier.

yes, Japan, Korea are more developed but much more expensive. language is challenging I would not stay there. if anything Dubai is a good choice I like it. if Vietnam it is good choice for money. VN offers 3 month stay e-visa for tourists. Danang is very popular for foreigners thus prices tend higher. in Vietnam I prefer to stay in Nha trang. more local Vietnamese. prices tend even cheaper than Danang.

Isn't there also language barrier in Vietnam and Malaysia?

In Malaysia nope, in Vietnam yes

Malaysia is former British colony, their English is good as their education system uses English like India, Singapore and Philippine (former American colony)

Vietnamese also usually have bad English pronunciation for those who can speak English. Indonesian/Malay language are neutral language, we can speak English fluently if we seriously learn the language.

This girl is still in high school. All of my young nephew can speak English quite fluently

Indonesian English speaking is pretty the same, check the other guy

if you mean Viet people can understand Malay people, yes, there is a great barrier. we don´t understand each other at all. but there is a catch we have both latin characters. if you want to learn, Malay is much easier to learn than Vietic. from the grammatic Malay is a more straighforward language. you see the words you speak everry words. Selamat means "Hello"´you pronounce se-la-mat.
if there is a scale for difficulty: 1 is most easiest, 10 most difficult.
Malay is rated 4, Vietic 5, Chinese is 10 (French is 11).
but in Malaysia most people speak english or chinese everywhere. so for US citizens no problem to communicate. don´t need to learn Malay.

I think Vietnam is a good place, just need a few more years of development. Most Chinese would even choose to retire in Vietnam if not for the hostilities.
