It is good system but jury is still out on it being the best. Chinese SAMs are very bulky and less maneuverable but cost effective. US and west still have the best air defense solutions but china will catch up in a decade or so.

Nope. Russia has the best air defence system in the world. Nothing in this world can match the S-400. Not even close.

There is no such thing as best Russian air defense system. Israeli and Turkish F16s repeatedly jammed Russian systems in Syria prior to attack on ground. To date S300 which was directly under control of Syrian forces could score a kill. S400 provides a variety and merely presents extended range not better ECM capabilities. Chinese systems are more robust as they utilize western tech as well. S400 for now remains an untested system. India only bought s400 bcz Russia was refusing to hand them latest nuclear sub on lease. Turkey bought it to spite west and US still as of now it is still not operational. There is a good chance that either Turkey will resell it or put it in permanent storage.

SAM have an efficacy rate of 50 to 70% at best. Patriots have been found to intercept upto 70-80% of targets which is pretty good. Intercepting a missile is a tall order mainly bcz their low RCS allows for very little response time. Point defense system is the best option for incoming missiles.

My point is that nobody can claim Russian/Chinese/American as being superior to each other. The only way to find that out be a actual war. Which I hope never happens. Claiming that USA has better air defence systems is simply not true. The same can be said to those who claim Russian as superior. The S-400 is only superior on paper. That is why so many US allies want to buy them. Including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt. Even Greece bought the S-300.

In term of Performance, S-300/S-400 were more comparable to Aegis Defence System fielded by US Navy. The Scale, Range of Engagement, The Capability of Using Flexible choice of Interceptor Missile according to Target, etc.

The Russian system also protected by Close in Weapon System component in form of Pantshir. making Russian SAM Site that employ S-300/S-400 have similiar Deterence or Capabilities to Aegis equiped Warship

That makes, (on Paper) S-400 were way superior system than Patriot and anything that the west has to offer. Which means that currently Russia has the best air defence systems (on Paper) in the world.

Without a doubt the Russian systems S-400 and S-500 can shoot farther. They fit their missiles with the most powerful engines. But can they hit super fast, semi-stealth to stealth objects? A big part of the missile capability equation comes from being able to detect and deliver the load. These are highly dependent on high end electronics -- which the Russians have shown little improvement over the last two decades. Take Su-35 for example, it has the best engines and air frame in the world. The result is a highly maneuverable jet that any opponent would not want to face in a dog fight. Yet its Snow Leopard radar is outdated and passive. In many if not all the war games Su-35's were pitched against Chinese J10C and J16, Su-35's got squashed AGAIN and AGAIN. Su-35 came out about the same years as S-400 and it was the pride of Mother Russia then. If Su-35's inferior electronics were any telling, I don't see how S-400 could hit against F-35, J-20, or even J10C. Just my 2 cents.

I look forward to Russia's Mig-35 (which is said to have AESA) and S-500, but, uh-uh, no S-400 against today's modern jets.
