Lately I have noticed that all of Indian channels have started to call "Shaheed" to their dead soldiers. In almost every Youtube video I came across randomly, the anchor repeats "Shaheed" for the dead soliders almost 10 times in a minute.

Why this sudden change? Why adopting Muslim ideology to call dead hindu soldiers "Shaheed"?

I am genuinly curious and interested to know why the Indian govt feels that the word "Shaheed" to describe their dead soldiers elevates their status somehow?

Because we all know that without Indian govt approval their media never goes to such lengths.

I would really like to understand the thought process of our neighbors.

Zia ul Haq first used it for Indian Sikhs who died in Golden Temple operation. Then it was adopted by Indian govt without even knowing it's meaning.

This word is from Arabic language
Used in Quran in special context. It is already a religion related word in Muslim world. But you have given it a religious spin by stealing this word, and even without knowing it's depth. If you had known what it is, you would have hated it.

Though the word "Shaheed" is an arabic word however different languages, religions and cultures have different words with similar connotations.
The concept of martyrdom is not exclusive to Muslims only and now the word "Shaheed" has become an urdu word as well, hence i have no qualms about any urdu speaking person using it despite being a non muslim.

No one in his right mind calls you Arabs. If some Indians do, they are off their kilter. But I've met enough Pakistanis who claim some sort of Arab lineage and yes, there is some aping. Subcontinental Islam was largely influenced by a tolerant Persian Islam. In University, where once I was mistaken for a Muslim I was corrected by a Pakistani who said - "Don't say Khuda Hafiz" - say "Allah Hafiz" because the later is more Arab and Khuda is a secular term. I am no expert but I can only talk from personal experience. I am sure you know better.

The word is mostly used for the Muslim soldiers or persons who sacrifice their lives for sake of Allah and in witness of His oneness.

Now that completely contradicts Hindu teachings.

Indian media should have done a bit of research before creating "fake Shaheeds" out of their dead hindu soldiers by blindly copying and thinking this would somehow increase status of their dead soldiers.
