那时，环球网刊文指出，美国大量引用中国国内公开报道，看似“客观公正”，但藏着一个“中国威胁论”的内核。宋忠平表态称，中国国防力量的现代化、人员装备的扩充更新，是根据我们的国防需要和国力自然而然进行的。所谓“中国威胁论”，不过是国外不同利益团体为了达到自身目的进行的炒作。
