What's new

The new details of Iranian Trimaran Frigate, “Safineh”

you said Antiship chambers are large and Anti Aircrafts are smaller
No, that's not what I said. I said given there are so many VLS, they COULD be for smaller sized sams.

Edit: I see where you're getting confused. When I say "smaller sized sams" I do not mean sams are smaller than ASM. I mean sam of relatively smaller size compared to other sams.

Another difference is risk to the vessel.
96 VLS all armed means a single issue in one could lead to loss of ship. Likely why most countries shy away from having too many VLS cells versus surface weight.

While a similar sized vessel might only carry 18-32 VLS it likely has more ammo in the hull. I believe the Iranian vessel does not carry any extra ammo and thus frees up space for more VLS.

Ship armor will change soon too. Meanwhile there are a lot of researchs in graphene armor - for tanks, choppers and also ships. So in future a destroyer could have the same plating as e.g. a ww2 battle ship at far less weight. Here the link i already posted in some other threads
