What's new

The mighty Satavahana dynasty .

Well it's mentioned in CBSE/NCERT textbooks dealing with history during the period between 2nd century BC to 2nd century AD. But it's not given that much importance due to the influence of all the Communists in our Edu- system.
I don't even remember reading about it. (My history was always weak!!!)

Well i don't think nothing much is written about this great Empire of ours in the so called NCERT texts apart from just mentioning them as the rulers of Central , South-West India. And your grip in History is better than most of us PDF members.

Some interesting quick points i gathered from going through articles on satavahana dynasty

>Andhras supplied the king with an army of 100000 infantry , 2000 cavalry and 1000 elephants

>Most importantly the satvahanas during administration followed the directives of dharma shastras and did not
believe in any divine rights for the king. The king himself led the army in the battle field as the commander in chief.

>The king had a council of ministers to advise him and he was the head of the government , the administration system was kind of feudal i.e feudal chiefs managed the land and revenues for the area assigned to them.

>There were three grades of feudatories – the ‘Raja’, the ‘Mahabhoja’ and the ‘Maharathi or ‘Senapati”. The ‘Raja’ belonged to the highest grade. He had the right to impose taxes and to strike coins. The kingdom was divided into provinces and ‘Janapadas’ for administrative efficiency.

Social Condition

class 2------- petty officers , amatyas(minister) , traders
class 3--------physicians , writers , peasants , goldsmiths , perfumers

Nosses on coins look foreign, seem like rulers were central asians.

But are they taught in schools
No....upnishads are way to much for honours students...let alone school children ...moreover.....no relegious scriptures in school syllabus.....as far as satavahana .....yes they are part of syllabus of higher secondary.
