Ostensibly most of the kamikaze pilots were volunteers, and when they died their family received an amount close $120 today, back in those days it must 've been a huge amount.
Similar to kamikaze there were kaitens, which were suicidal torpedoes.

In my opinion, Japanese soldiers come close to Rajputs who put honour before anything else and preferred killing themselves rather than getting captured.

I suggest watching Clint Eastwood's hit "Letters from Iwo Jima" with english subtitles. Not that much action but one gets the idea of what the final months of the war were like for ordinary Japanese soldiers and for their visionary Maj General.

well, usa military has tried to find every chance of starting another, most recently in syria in mid 2013.

maybe you know this story... during the days of what usa government called "cuban missile crisis", a soviet submarine was patrolling under off-cuban waters or sovereign cuban waters... a usa navy ship happened to detect the sub and dropped depth charges... the sub was carrying nuclear warhead rockets... the sub was damaged a bit i think... it was now upto three people on the sub to decide if they should launch the rockets upon usa - the captain, the first officer and the chief engineer... the last man said "no. we should take evasive measures and ditch the american ship"... this way, world war 3 did not start... the submarine somehow got away to get repaired... we now are able to live in this year because of what that soviet chief engineer did 50 years ago.

Initially, it was very successful but in the later stages, the allies adapted and evolved tactics to counter them.
The main reason Japan lost was because of relative lack of resources, manpower and industrial output as compared to US along with outdated tactics of their land forces like banzai charges.
