The Atago class DDG is just a watered down version of the Arleigh Burke class DDG with an inferior PESA radar An/SPY-1.

I agree but newer Aegis Combat Systems in JMSDF service has the SM-3 BMS.

The Atago class weighs almost 1000 tons more than the current Arleigh Burke model, but the gas turbine propulsion is the same, thus this ship has some serious flexibility problem compared to its AB counterpart.

The Sejong the Great class DDG is even worse, it is a waste to have 128 VLS units with a such weak PESA radar.

It is a fact that PLAN's second generation AESA radar is comparable to AN/SPY-3, both are flat panel x/s band radar.

If it is not X/S dual band radar, then it doesn't have to be flat panel.
