Your analogy was a bit odd, did you mean to imply that some of the points presented in my previous post were unrealistic? It's true that people do discuss colonization & its ill effects, but that does not mean that all of them desire to humiliate the West. Although, I do agree that there is a segment of Asians that really despises the West. The author quoted in the original post was talking about the sick mindset of those individuals that happen to despise the West. In the Muslim world, people tend to hate the Western governments' policies & their support for Israel. This doesn't imply that they hate Europeans or those of European descent.

Getting to the topic of Western values in politics & economy, I don't think there is any great or functional alternative to them at the moment. Besides, Asia is too diverse to have similar values. Islamic nations in Asia for instance have different values in comparison to secular nations. I don't think the East will ever rise as one unit. Some countries in the East will rise, others will remain crap, just as they are today. Those that rise may have an impact on the world, but that impact will only take place if the ideologies they present are better than Western ideologies. The Japanese for instance have made an impact on business values, for example; "kaizen" is a good practice for quality control, the word itself means "continuous improvement". However, I doubt anyone gives a crap about Japanese cultural values.

Your point about alternative to western values is absolutely true, there are none at present. I don't think the East should come together to bring new values across and even in the west democracy didn't start every where together did it??

I don't want just business models, i want ideologies in societal, administrative and economic spheres which can bring us out of the morass currently we are in.

this is an international political forum so i would say something which would be of little interesting for the australian politicians.... in late 2003, I lived for about a month only with few of my Punjabi friends, clean shave sikhs, and one south indian in Paramatta. we were students that time, then i moved to city hostel. there, one day my one friend Ricky brought a police woman and he and 2 other Punjabis fcuked that police women 2-3 times one by one. me, mandi (one more clean shaved punjabi), and that south indian were just eating egg curry with rice that time and had good talk with that police woman at the end also....... Well. I am not stating this in absolute terms. Just check out this forum, and see each poster decides about his/her posts and views.

I am sure you have met Pakistani-Americans who have strong views about the West, one way or the other.

If you come to Pakistan, you will find the same thing. Each one of us from General to Sipahi, from billionaire to Khawancha farosh, from old wife to high school boy, the teacher and doctors, students and farmers all have specific views be they pro-West or anti-West.

They all decide in their heads and in their hearts if they want to follow a behavior that is also being followed by North Korea or South.

Of course democracy wasn't adopted by the Western world simultaneously. Democracy or "demokratia" was a system of governance designed by the ancient Greeks. The word "demokratia" means "the people's rule". If I am not mistaken, the Corsican Republic was one of the first modern nations to adopt a democratic constitution. This republic does not exist today.

Moving of to social values, I can honestly say that even Asian nations haven't been able to influence each other to a large extent in regards to societal values & norms. Most nations tend to have their own cultural & social values, & people tend to be extremely resistant to changes in culture & beliefs. One may argue that there is a degree of Western influence on our societies. This influence arrives through the media; in the form of movies & entertainment, & through multinational companies; in the form of clothing, food, gadgets, etc.

Democracy is perhaps the most well know form of government some Asian nations have adopted from the West with varying results. Earlier forms of government such as kingdoms or empires have been present since ancient times throughout most of the world. Administrative procedures like the collection of taxes to run the empire was something present in both Western & Eastern empires. If I am not mistaken, taxes were collected in ancient Persia.

Speaking of the economic models, I have mixed opinions on this topic. If you are referring to economic concepts of demand & supply or the elasticity of price, it's true that these concepts are of Western origin to an extent. However, these concepts are applicable to & observable in all nations. If we were to discuss capitalist & socialist economic systems. Modern forms of these economic systems are of Western origin, but some primitive forms of capitalism & socialism have been practiced for centuries in both the East & the West. In the Arab Islamic caliphates for instance, it's possible to find elements of both socialism & capitalism. There were private merchants in the past that produce commodities for profit, but the necessities of life such as water were jointly owned by all citizens of the caliphate. The government's job in this scenario was to ensure that publicly owned resources were not abused by a few individuals so that all people may benefit from the natural resources provided by God as per the Islamic economic model.

sir, many times i said that no matter which cultural background we adopt, it would first prove good for the common people, and then only we would adopt that cultural change in our society. there must be a good reason, why would we adopt cultural change until that certain change may prove itself good/ worth for the society. today, whatever technology US/EU have, they got from high skilled migrants of developing countries. it is even a common talks in western nations that they generally give scientific awards to their own people for the works which were done by the high skilled migrants............

i have seen australian society from a very close and i can say that, that society just can't produce good students. an environment to study hard is absent there, only having body and good in sports which help them win more medals and perform excellent while doing labor jobs, only. i lived in a house in early 2008, i think it was belonging to a relative of Mr Howard, where me and one guy from New Zealand and one australian girl was living, who might be related to Mr Howard in someway. and in front of we two, mother of that aussie girl used to come with boy friend of that girl to drop him few times. and that girl was also under high school passed, was working on customer service job and also used to work as a waitress also. but its obvious that she can't work on good position as simply she was not qualified enough and also she didn't grew up in the environment that she may try to study hard and rise. and the result is, people like me work on at least $100k+ while the labors are paid for hourly basis, hardly $17-$20/hour and she was one of them. that guy of New Zealand, Cameron, was earing little good money, around $30/hour, as he was a laborer on a mine site.

sir, we must be able to open mouth to clearly state, how a person study hard, qualify in different exams and hence got a status of having high qualification from a top ranked institutes and then he/she work on different technical institutes to help the US/UK/Australia/Canada type countries have high techs. winning different wars in 19th and 20th centuries made these western nations in the position to attack high skills from other nations and hence they could maintain the lead. Britain/US were extremly benefitted from this trend. or, Japan type countries also helped them have high techs in past. and its our culture which has powered us to perform so good on the side of education and there would a good reason, why would we adopt western culture if it will not help our next generation to grow in future, will finally take our society towards destruction??? why would we become one day like US/UK/Australia who wait for the high educated people to come from overseas, and in fact, this is why their fall is in front of them..... no matter which cultural background we adopt, it must first prove worth/good for the society.

I did my Master of Engineering in mechanical/manufacturing engineering from University of Technology Sydney. right now I can see it on 143 rank in QS Global ranking as below but if we short list only 5 Star Labeled institutes then it would be on 21th position in world. also, none from India China have 5 Star label so it has a different meaning. i preferred this institute mainly because it is located in the main city of Sydney, the financial centre there. the only city university in Sydney........... I also completed Master of Engineering Management from UTS, we had few subjects in common with the first master so i could get this master degree in one year only and then i migrated there in 2005. i worked in australia for over 5 years and right now in india on holiday...
