Army shifts 70 tonnes of food to flood victims

PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Army has transported more than 70 tonnes of food to flood victims in Swat, Dir and Kohistan, which have no road links with other parts of the country due to heavy floods, Daily Times learnt on Saturday.
Army used animals to transport the food to flood-hit areas of Shangla and Kohistan districts, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said. According to the statement, 20,000 packets of cooked food and 23,000 meals ready to eat (MRE) provided the US had been distributed amongst the flood victims of Malakand, Nowshera, Dera Ismail Khan, Pahar Pur and Charsadda.
Army engineers had been working to repair the damaged bridges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Tribal Areas. According to provincial government estimates, more than 200 bridges had been completely destroyed by the floods.
“A bridge in Bagh Dheri, Swat has opened for light traffic after the military engineers repaired it,” the statement read. Sakhra and Kalakot Bridge in Upper Swat were being repaired. Bridges measuring four feet had been made functional in Madyan, Kalam and Bahrain.
Takhta Band Bypass and Hazara Bridge in Mingora had also been opened for traffic.

These Chinooks are truly life savers. American support and help should be acknowledged and appreciated by all Pakistanis.
