What does the writer mean by future of islam? Is it some sort of notion he made up in his head? What does it even suppose to mean? To begin with, there is no concept of nation state based on nationalsim in Islam. If he meant center of learning and islamic scholarship- KSA for eg. still boast the best center of islamic learning. There is hardly any center of learning like Islamic University of Madinah in the countries this guy mentioned. Some of the renowned islamic scholars of our time whether its in turkey, BD, PAK or malaysia r students of institutes like Al-azhar and University of Madinah.
A muslim can't be secular, period. Secularism & islam r 180° to each other.
What is secularism? - islamqa.info
The movements u speak of r not islamic to begin with. Mutazilites were a well known extreme deviant group , the other extreme of the kharijites and other extremist ideology. Din E Ilahi was a new religion of a heretic like akbar where as philosophers like Ibn Rushd were not scholars rather they were nominally muslims and r not a authority on Islam in the first place. Bottom line- Islam won't change with the whims and desires of a particular society at any particular time and its not their to suite the dominant political narrative of a particular time. All isms r temporary and will come and go whereas , islam is permanent. Its way of life for all times till the end of the world and it is a complete package -u either take it or leave it.
