The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz appeared on state television on Wednesday for the first time since he underwent a back operation on November 18.
The 89-year-old monarch was shown seated and receiving well-wishers at the King Abdul Aziz Medical City for the National Guard in the capital Riyadh.

The footage came as rumours were awash that the health of the leader of the world’s key oil producer had taken a sharp turn for the worse.

“He thanked all those who have wished him well,” state news agency SPA reported.

On Monday, Crown Prince Salman assured cabinet members over the health of the king, state news agency SPA reported.

King Abdullah had undergone a new operation to correct “a ligamentary slackening in the upper back.”

State media had reported daily on the stream of family members going to check on the king’s health over the past 11 days. However, until Wednesday, all visitors had been received by his eldest son Mitaab.

The king’s absence from the public gaze had sparked growing rumours about his health on social networking website Twitter.

The king had a similar operation in October 2011. In November 2010, he was operated on in New York for a slipped disc complicated by a blood clot that put pressure on his spine, and he underwent a further operation the following month before convalescing for a month in Morocco.

The king’s age and frequent hospitalisations have raised concerns about the future leadership of the world’s key oil producer.

The heir to the throne is his half-brother Crown Prince Salman, 76, who was named to the succession on the death of Prince Nayef in June.

there is a long queue waiting to be crowned out of the royal family of al saud...... !! :disagree:

.
His highness Prince Salman ( the current mistier of defense) will take the lead.

What do you think of "his highness" Salman? Is he a good man? Don't you Saudis get sick of one family ruling you? Salman is already 76 years of age!

. . .
after he is gone it bye bye Saudi royalty divided by family disputes. prince bandar wants position too.

. .
cause Saudis serve Islam n USA/isreal =khalifat + NATO style.

. .
Saudis are stooges there is so much evidence of it. never helped no Muslims countries against NATO but have pitted Muslims against Muslims. shariah is for rest not Saudis royals in audis. i dont get why Saudis people support a monarchy that spits on our religion n make hidden deals with the so called great satan. Saudis keep uncle sam economy alive for wars. what are Saudis doing are they calling for khalifat no are they helping Muslim countries no but jihad is for poor. but Saudis love buying junk weopens is it by accident or is it cos uncle sam wants his payment for keeping them in power but the deal is disguised as weopen deal.
it is open secret they serve uncle sam n get to eat Arabia of it resources. chicken are coming home to roost.

Saudi Arabia has helped many countries politically and economically. And funny how you think of saudi arabia as a superpower. We help as much as we could we have a limit we cant go beyond it. Pakistan is the strongest muslim nation in term of military, Turkey is part of NATO, Egypt, Jordan.... why is saudi arabia. we are not responsible for others we help you but if you cant help yourself then shame on you not Saudi Arabia.

shari'ah is for rest not Saudis royals in audis.

of course no doubt!

i dont get why Saudis people support a monarchy that spits on our religion n make hidden deals with the so called great satan.

we have our own reasons to support our leaders but what deals are you referring to?

Saudis keep uncle sam economy alive for wars

The US ranks first when it comes to economy!

what are Saudis doing are they calling for khalifat no are they helping Muslim countries no but jihad is for poor
.

Saudi Arabia is sick of calling for unity let alone khialfa.

but Saudis love buying junk weopens is it by accident or is it cos uncle sam wants his payment for keeping them in power but the deal is disguised as weopen deal

Saudi Arabia buys weapons from different sources both western and eastern. Our military is in need of those weapons and not accidentally as you said. You never know what might happen, The whole world is going crazy nowadays.

it is open secret they serve uncle sam n get to eat Arabia of it resources. chicken are coming home to roost.

not more than mutual cooperation

Saudi Arabia could have been super duper power but sadly it a servant class system with USA being the master. iraq got bombed the hell out of but Saudis were dancing with bush. if one country has protest n wants leadership gone Saudis will support armed groups but if it happen in the heart land of Arabia it grand mufti lecture time and king says here 300 million dollars now shut up people then arabs go back to sleep. skyscrapers in the mecca region which no one can afford to rent a room when mecca is for the poor to go n pray but wait back of the line you poor a ss immigrant from third world. Saudi have turned heart land in to Disney land. true Saudi dont have to help others true very true then we as Muslim do not need to come to Arab rescue n die for their stupidity. Saudis never called for khalifat maybe lip service. Turkey is part of NATO today in modern times why cos it was back stabbed guess who by. Saudi hate Iran so much that they even tuned on pak to put pressure on it to switch to Saudi camp completely or we make deals with your rival neighbor vice versa with Iran against pak.
