in atheist society, religion is synonymous to arrogance, violence, and bigotry. my observations tells religious people in china are typically ill-educated and ill-informed people. in fact, unreligious people are much more peaceful and tolerant all over the world.

In atheist society, I would assume, religious people are minority, and should be protected. One would not, as an atheist in a religious society, expect anything less.
It is not about who is right and who is wrong, it is about giving freedom to others which you seek yourself, when you are minority.

It is true that religion can be used for political influence. So yes, there is a danger.

But such misuse of religion can happen only if the people are ignorant and susceptible to manipulation. The best defense is the have a well-educated and enlightened population, together with good governance. India has not reached that level of maturity as yet.
