Enjoy this thread, and do listen to this song i specifically chose to be heard while you look at pictures of the natural landscape of Korea, peninsula-wide !

Truly impressive! Maybe such landscape is one of many reasons why Korean movies and music are so dominant across whole China? During the last Spring Festival holiday, Korea surpassed Japan as top tourist destination for Chinese, no hard feeling bro!

Sure it is. Both are good from Shanghainese perspective, slightly in different ways though. SK cultural products are more "cool" in contemporary fashion, JP ones are more "futuristic". My wife likes SK drama, pop groups, designer-brands and accesories, while I am a fan of JP neo-concept music (久石让, 岩崎琢, etc), Zen interior architecture, Nissan/Infiniti.

Shanghai, Seoul and Tokyo (Taipei as well) all have two airports. It's a very unique arrangement that they are connected by the downtown (mainly for domestic flights) one, not the international one. Traveling between these cities are really convenient, like shuttle service.

I have heard about this from my Hong Kong friends (many years back even) that the S. Korean dramas are extremely popular with the women folk.

I am looking forward to more Chinese soft power in the coming years and decades too. I quite enjoy a lot of Chinese cultural products because I have actively gone about seeking it to a large degree....China is still punching below its weight in this regard compared to its size I feel.

The ethereal splendor of Beakdu ....

It should interesting to note that Beakdu/Changbai itself is divided in half between China & N.K. This mountain is not only considered sacred to the Koreans but also to the Manchus. Breathtaking mountain!

Korean drama has pretty much taken over Singapore as well. Japanese drama used to be king here. My wife dominates the TV during prime time for her K. drama fix daily, thank god I have the internet! :D

As a Mainlander myself I don't see much soft power from here, if you mean Chinese from Hong Kong, from Taiwan, then yes I agree. They are also behind some successful mainland-produced cultural products like talent shows, singing contests. Choreographers, arts directors, music directors, live bands, even producers, are from Hong Kong, Taiwan, SK. All three movie blockbusters during Spring Festival in China are by directed Hong Kong team, only front faces and investment provided by Mainland Chinese.

Hong Kong, Taipei, will continue to be strong in this sense. Beijing is investment and distribution center, Shanghai has zero role to play in Chinese soft power.

Yes, I mostly am a fan of Hong Kong Martial arts films :)

Same in SG? Guess women are all like that, crazy for SK drama, and worst part being follow on shopping for the fashion or accessories they see in them. Headache for my wallets!

Hahaha, yes, 24/7 K. drama during prime time, complete with reruns in the afternoons in SG. Same with my wife, fashion, food, & all sorts of seeming useless stuff, & dun forget the shoes!
