Tensions as Paris suburb tries to stop Muslim street prayers

It's the only way to get people's attention. If you don't want them praying in a building then what the town mayor is essentially saying that they have to pray in the streets. So they did that.

They don't belong in France. ... France is a Christian nation these people should respect that fact and leave.

According to the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen of 1789, which appears in the preamble of the Constitution, no one should be worried for his opinions, even religious, provided that their manifestation does not disturb the public order established by the law.

Freedom of conscience thus guarantees the right to pray in the street. The only limitation to this right concerns the possible disturbance to public order that they could constitute, such as the unauthorized obstruction of a street.

So in this case, that is illegal.

The french authorities always have and had a negative attitude towards French Muslims when it comes to the point of acquiring a place to be used as mosque by Muslims or to construct a mosque with french boundaries. French are demolishing old churches to converting them to parking lots, bars or night clubs but don't sell them to Muslims putting forward the logic that such action will tarnish the sanctity of the church . Yes, the french constitution is secular but the attitude of french authorities isn't. French Muslims have acquired houses to be used as prayer places but such temporary measures are becoming inadequate to accommodate an increasing number of Muslims which come to offer prayers.

Demolishing churches remain exeptional and supervised. 37 churches have been demolished since 2000. So...

Performing an 'exceptional and supervised' task '37 times' (not to mention the churches which have been converted into bars & night clubs) under the logic of 'protecting the sanctity of church' instead of letting the church building convert into a mosque so that Muslims can pray in a proper place and not in some overcrowded prayer house or in streets. Don't you find anything wrong with the whole picture?

Getting a mosque set up in many European countries is actually pretty hard and this convinces many to resort to this kind of behaviour. There is only one real mosque in my city and it took about 20-30 years of planning and convincing the authorities before the permission was given. The UK is much better in this regards.

Having said that, praying on the streets is not the answer as you only turn the common French/Non-Muslim
man against you. For them you are causing an obstruction to their path, and will as such automatically associate Islam with an obstruction to their daily life. Unfortunately most Muslims don't think this far, which is fueling tensions, and also helps explain the rise in Islamophobic. As a minority we should not obstruct life for others (even as a majority you shouldn't but at least in that case most people will empathize or sympathize with decisions that you have made based on your religion). For a non-Muslim person however, not being able to walk down their street and instead having to resort to to walking around and taking a longer route whilst carrying their groceries or trying to hurry to get to their job on time, only fuels negative perceptions of Muslims and Islam. Better to utilise the right to demonstrate and vote and make your voice heard on the political level at municipal elections.

Respecting all religions doesn't mean that someone should practise their religion in a way that gets in the face of other folks.

People clogging the streets to offer prayer is exactly that.

I agree, but how about the ( Hindu ) Ganesha processions in India or the Hare Rama Hare Krishna processions in Europe or America??

No what others are saying is ,if you don't have a place to worship then you pray in your house and not on the street .

Well not everyone likes to take and accept bullsh!t on name of patriotism like Indian muslims.

So good work by French muslims.
You know what's bullsh!t,Muslims don't want to give the same privileges to non Muslims in their host countries but what the same in non Muslim countries .if religion was so important for them they had more than 50 muslim countries to go to but they choose not to

France had a choice to colonize dozens of country but it chose Northern African muslim majority countries and is now whining when its own legal citizens want a place of worship.

Don't tell me Muslims have not colonized other countries ,can Muslims too should be held accountable for the past .you cannot have both ways

There are legal ways for legal citizens to get a place of worship not on the road .

Muslims might have colonized. But nothing in comparison to what Europeans did.

And as for legal ways. They are also trying that. Read the news in OP.

Both where brutal when colonizing,so it can't be Europeans where more brutal than Muslims so only Europeans should be held accountable for the past.
Muslims from other countries can complain if they had provided the same privileges to non Muslims in their own countries they left .I am sure you will not find one such person.

The truth is french hate Muslims bro, there us no other way to put it .either the Muslims live in France the way french want or move to any one of the Muslim countries for their Paradise.

This reminds me of that dik driver who stopped a train to pray
