And a quick translation,

"This message is actually from 2006 onwards on the everlasting popularity ah! Moderated your mind is a good introduction to China, but it should not be anything superfluous, and others to Tripi, not obvious to people face to fight the West would not be interested. People say that is exactly how you are convinced that this is not strange A-San patriotic ah, even our own people is not all agree with each one of you said, However, now is actually very busy on the so-called Chinese and Indians to competition for foreigners to see the circus, there is a need for? Originally wanted a picture of how fat is not, Oh"

Well for a start let me clarify i have no probs in accepting China as a fast growing economy and miles ahead of India.

but wrt your post about the 1 child policy, why is it a wonderfull decision. Is it because you feel it would decrase the pop and allow better resources per head?

Fast Forward 50 years and think. How would it look like? Its a japan in making, too many old people and lesser younger ones to support them. Its a demographic timebomb.

And also there are many reports of forced state abortion.

LMAO.
Why is 1 child policy not a good policy?

It is already foresaw 25 years ago that huge population could create a problem for China. The chinese leaders take drastic action to solve this critical problem far in advance. It is a difficult decision to make, but it is a decision nonetheless.

As a chinese, I think we are fairly gusty and practical people.
Now, to be a leader, a good leader, he/she has to have the quality of making extremely difficult decision. The decision of weighing the greater good for the majority of the people and their future versus an unchecked population growth and an uncertain future. You cannot progress without making difficult sacrifices. In this case, I have to say I support whoever made this gutsy decision. On other hand, does India have such politicians who is willing to make this kind of sacrifice? (Or have any vision to see past his own belly?)

Remember, India is much SMALLER THAN CHINA. In fact, it is THREE TIMES SMALLER than China, while it has almost the same number of population. That puts 3 times more of "compressive" stress on population. And it is STILL GROWING. China still have lots of room to grow to, while India is already too evenly populated. Soon, India will have no room to grow to but expanding out.

If anything, I think India should consider itself a huge threat. With the current uncontrolled population growth (20 million born each year and doubling) it will soon reach boiling point. The lack of water resources, (provinces fighting each other for water) or general lack of resources, on top of the rapidly expanding military, (It is acquiring more aircraft carriers, more nukes, more long range fighter and bombers) will drive an aggression towards neighbouring countries (China, Pakistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar). This is similar to what Japan/Germany experienced during WWII. That, should be EVERYONE's concern.

Again, coming back to the topic of making difficult and unpopular decisions and making sacrifices for greater good, China have successfully curtailed the population growth by instituting 1 child policy. I don't see that policy ever happen in India, and thus my above concern of Indian population explosion and possible militarism should the resource of the land starting the run dry.

The Indian govt had implemented a national family planning program early in 1951, and ever went radical in the 1970s. The Indian family planning have been bland as a whole, and 50 percent of the population uses some form of birth control, which indeed slowed down their population growth rate but today it still hovers around 1.7%.

India has to struggle first with their 39% illiteracy, otherwies there will be booming pile of blowhards equally with their elite here and there.

A question to my Chinese friends: I never understood the title of this thread.
Can someone explain?
Thanks. :)

I think the original thread starter ("wang") was trying to say, he wants to show the world what China is really like, by posting links to photo of Chinese cities as to dispel some misconception about China.
"To show you" (Tell you) a "real face of" (true) China" is what he should have said.

Does that look like to you they have any sort of family planning?

Thats what I assumed indeed. Shall we change the title...if its ok with the Chinese friends.

After browsing through the baidu.com photos, I think it's a bad idea for China to follow the American/western model of urban planning.

The highly specialised "zoning" based urban planning is just wrong. In the photos, you see "Adminstrative zone", "financial zone", "foreign business zone", "Shopping mall zone", "Residential zone", each with vast area of its own specialised bubble. It ENCOURAGES the use of car, because to walk or bike from one area let's say "Residential zone" to "Shopping mall zone" would be too much effort. (probably no less than 20 km) This "car culture" is simply unsustainable, and it already reflected in the American's abuse of environment and thirst for oil (They are still the number one polluter by far, and their thirst for oil drives them to war in Iraq). By adapting to this urban planning strategy, will be catastrophic for China.

What needs to be done is to plan for "mix-use" decentralised planning system, where each high rise building, each "zone" will have its own shopping mall, adminstrative, financial area. That way, it encourages walking, biking, and diminishes the use of car. It also create far more space for people, diminishes pollution from car, and lower the consumption of oil. By adopting the "mix-use" decentralised urban planning strategy, it will also stimulate and encourages economy far more than centralised zoning based one, because decentralisation means it will create more individuality, as each zone will have its own unique shopping mall, financial centers, etc. It also create far more redundancy incase of emergency. (Imagine hospital is in another zone 30 km away and you have emergency in a residential area)

Also more inter-zone bus/fast rail system needs to be installed (I see these are lacking too) to get greater efficiency of mass transportation.

I hope someone in China would realise this.

don know when did we switch it into urban planing but it's ok. I had been in Beijing for 6 years and now in Guangzhou and dont wanna complain about the city layout at all, they're becoming more like what you are worrying about though. The residential district I live in is 10Kms or 30min drive away from downtown and my office. and now we have Parkson mall and 2 Mcdonald's (1 take-away) along the nearby shopping street and a bunch of bank outlets inside and around our "living zone", not mentioning about gyms, shops, restaurants and even a primary school within the area. you can locate my zone and its surroundings with google earth.;)

whatever predesign was drwan for the area, once there is buyer's market, there is business in consequence. believe me China can/will not copy western models and implement them to an inch.

btw, Neo is a pretty nice guy and just doing his moderating work here. lets be suggested and get back to a true China.
