Tech That Died In The 2010s | MP3 Players, DVDs and More!

.
Just watched that very video yesterday

Regarding MP3 players though, the cheaper pure MP3 player might be gone, but the much higher resolution digital audio player market is Doing fairly well.

. .
I have a stock of CD-R and DVD-R+ not sure what to do with them!

.
Dig a hole in the ground and bury them, they might be worth something one day.

.
technology is short lived these days and have very little life as compared to other products which are natural and are necessary for life

MP3 players like ipods, zune, etc were for mass market and thus medium level of quality; high end market the audiophiles was always there and still is.

Vinyl is back in my friend. In a big way! Love my turntable

Yes it is back in business big big way.

It seems there are a number of audiophiles here on this forum, so sharing some of my preferences:

OPUS#1 albeit expensive is an excellent MP3 player, have been using it for a while and found it to be an excellent one.

But I prefer making my own so some of the setups I build over the years
VS1053 as MP3 decoder and I2S output or another setup of Raspberry PI having RuneOS
AD1865 DAC or PCM1702 based DAC purchased the chips almost 15 years ago, still have dozens of them I have heard that they have become rare, extremely expensive and many a times fake.
OPA627 CAN8 original from T.I as OPAMPS another setup with LME49860 and another with AD8610, same as above purchased OPA627 like 80 or 90 of them about 15 years ago, now any AVR I buy I prefer to replace the OPAMP in it with these babies.
AD815 as buffers
always preferred PCM over DSD

For Head Phone
B&W P7
Seinhesiser HD660S

For Speaker Setup
Modified Pass Lab Aleph 0S modular self designed PCB and power supply

many of the tech outdated during the last decade, well time does have that effect.

I’d like to think of myself as an audiophile, but I don’t quite have the income of one yet. More of a mental one I guess

I did just recently Invest in a really nice DAP (HIBY R6 PRO) And really enjoying higher resolution balanced audio.

At the same time though, I really enjoy the warmth of analog. Really depends what kind of mood I’m in.

You’ve had some sweet set ups brother. Kudos!!

@ps3linux Forgot to mention that I’m not a big fan of DSD myself.

Although I could understand why some audiophiles rave about it

Haven't used HIBY R6 PRO but according to the reviews its awesome, congratulations.

Thanks, not that price is too much of a concern as long as my rational brain agrees to it, 500 buck for a headphone is OK, may be a 1000 is Ok in exceptional cases, but 50 grands its stupid, there are sites out on the other web where you can buy schematics of many high end electronic products, once you have them procurement of parts, making a PCB and the end product is easy.

I think DIY is much more satisfying and if you have the flare for tweaking things well that's sweet, AD1865 is the best 18bit NAS DAC ever designed, if you ever want to go the DIY way let me know and I 'll send a couple, may be AD1868 and PCM170x as well.

DSD it has it pros and cons, but right now I dont need it.

Long time ago when Qsurround used to make ICs, their top of the line product was Qsurround 5.1, it was a wonderful algorithm and IC all in one stereo to 5.1.
