Tax benefit for Cricket World Cup 2011
India has approved a proposal to exempt the International Cricket Council a part of its earnings from this year's Cricket World Cup.
The waiver, expected to be worth about US$10m, applies to activities related to the tournament arising solely in India.
However, lucrative earnings from global television and sponsorship rights will not be included.
India instituted a similar waiver in 2006 for the ICC Trophy cricket competition.
India often grants tax exemption on ticket sales for popular movies, especially films which carry a social or patriotic message.
India and Sri Lanka will play the final of the six-week long tournament in the western Indian city of Mumbai on Saturday.
