But generally the practice is frowned upon by muslims because the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) did not like tattoos:

1. Tatoos specially having name on arms is an old practice here among certain number of people which was aimed at identification in case of accidental death. With passage of time and media expansion the burger boys and girls now do have tatoos inspired by west. So i do NOT buy this argument that Muslims cant have tatoos. HOWEVER for this one ,its entirely different tatoo which is not preffered by people here to have it on their body so indeed its a vital clue for the intelligence agencies to check the connection of this guy/guys.

That is not accurate, almost all the mainstream muftis agree that the practice of tattooing is PROHIBITED to practicing muslims, based on the hadith in Bukhari.

However there are exceptions, if the tattoo on your body was before you converted to Islam, and you repent your actions than that is forgiven (“Islam takes away the sins done before it.” ). Also there is a Fatwa from Egypt allowing REVERTS (hate that word) with tattoos to perform hajj if they cannot afford the tattoo removal as Hajj is a Fard:

Allah says in the Qur'an, "Allah does not place a burden upon a soul beyond what it can bear" (al-Baqarah 2:286) the Prophet, Muhammed said; "… Allah did not send me to be harsh, or cause harm, but He sent me to teach and make things easy"

well guess what you CANNOT PRAY with a tatoo on! so clearly you MUST remove it there is no ifs and buts to it! specially if you wish to portray yourself as a true hardcore SALAFI muslim! so if you got them before you must remove it strictly speaking from a hardcore point of view.
