Its a good thread but may I recommend a suggestion especially to the well learned poster...500 & AntiBody:

Can you post images of tanks categorised by their engine position..i mean some tanks have front & some rear engine placement would certainly want to learn about the former

Today only Merkava has front engine.

Until 90-es there was also Swedish Strv 103:

I ain't DEMEANING Israeil designers but according to my knowledge front engine are doomed to cause problems especially regarding tank balance & heat signature problem. Also severe visual retardation occurs for the crew...ur comments

1) balance has both pros and cons.
2) heat signature - maybe, although when I saw Merkava in thermals its front had same color with rear.
3) severe visual retardation? I dont understand.

Main problem with front engine scheme is additional weight.
